Prince George, BC – Shooting proved to be a problem for Canadian biathlete, Megan Heinicke, in her first event of the 2014 Olympics…

The 25-year-old finished in 58th spot out of a field of 84 in the Women's 7.5km Sprint at the Sochi Games this morning.  The former member of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club had trouble at the range during today's event – missing one of the five shots from the prone position and two from standing.  For each shot missed, Heinicke had to ski a 150-metre penalty loop.

In the same event in 2010, the then-21-year-old finished 46th out of 88 competitors and ended the Games as the Top Canadian Woman in biathlon.

Today's sprint was won by Slovakia's Anastasiya Kuzmina – a repeat winner.  Kuzmina also won the gold medal in the sprint at Whistler.

This morning, Kuzmina finished almost 20-seconds ahead of silver medalist, Olga Vilukhina of Russia, and Vita Semerenko of the Ukraine won bronze.

Rosanna Crawford was the top Canadian, placing 25th, with Megan Imrie and Zina Kocher finishing 31st and 32nd, respectively.

The competitors are back in action on Tuesday in the 10km Pursuit when their start times will be staggered according to today's finish.
