CN Rail Line Remains Closed After Train ‘Rear Ender’
Sunday, February 9, 2014 @ 8:30 AM
Prince George, BC – No word yet on just when the CN rail line west of Vanderhoof will re-open, following a collision and subsequent derailment…
The crash occurred when one train struck the tail end of another – both were westbound – approximately eight-kilometres west of Vanderhoof around 1pm yesterday. As a result of the collision one locomotive and eight intermodal cars left the tracks, but remained upright.
CN says there were no injuries as a result of the collision and none of the cars was carrying dangerous goods.
Clean up crews have been working through the night to re-open the line.
Comments
I heard the incident was at Cariboo Siding which is East of Vanderhoof.
Geez; are we in that much of a rush to get bitumen to china? Or maybe we are in a tizzy to get to Rinse Rupert and pick up the baubles they send us in return for the Bitumen?
joeboy, do you understand anything about the economy?
Now think of those cars loaded with crude oil…
joe: “Geez; are we in that much of a rush to get bitumen to china? Or maybe we are in a tizzy to get to Rinse Rupert and pick up the baubles they send us in return for the Bitumen?”
I asked the crowd I saw shopping at Walmart today and they said ‘yes’.
Apparently thousands of shipping containers that come here return to China empty. Perhaps bladders can be created to fill in the inside of the containers. Maybe send some oil back with those containers. Could happen.
Harbinger.. Wouldn’t work.. The containers would make the ship top heavy.. Then we would see a real mess when it flips over
Oil floats on water so they could just keep on loading them until the ship was under water and they would float the whole thing! See? Easy!
Well we know Canadian National Railway has contributed approximately $250,000, in election campaign financing, to the Liberal Party of BC, how much they have donated to the Conservative Party of Canada is anyone’s guess.
I would imagine this allows them to operate with a certain degree of privilege?
How about green contributions? Or does that not count.
You know, People#1, with your attitude that EVERY accident is the ’employer’s’ fault, (whether it is or not), we might just see a day when there won’t be any more ‘private’ employers. Like CN, and Canfor, and those heartless, profit hungry monsters who owned the two mills that blew up.
Wonder if you’ll really welcome that, when the ONLY employer is the government? And you can’t get a ‘job’ anywhere else.
Will wages rise to a level EVERYONE can live on then? Everyone who has a ‘job’, I mean, though I suppose if the government owns everything you’ll figure they can finally create 100% full employment and all will be sweetness and light?
Will ‘safety first’ then be paramount? Just like it was in Russia under the Commies, (remember Chernobyl?), or in those State owned Chinese coal-mines today?
Maybe some of the moose will get a chance to cross the tracks for water without getting hit
It’s open now.
Thanks for your comment Socredible aka Ayn Rand;
I just can’t argue with a statement that starts off with; “You know, People#1, with your attitude that EVERY accident is the ’employer’s’ fault, (whether it is or not)…”
You took both sides of the argument, allowing me with neither… you win!
What we know for sure is that CN Rail did not donate any money the to NDP party. Hmmmmmm why would that be?? Oh Yes, that’s because the NDP have never and will never form a Federal Government in Canada.
99% of the legislation covering Railway operations in Canada were written a hundred years ago. Railways have property rights, and other rights that the average person could not comprehend without doing some in depth analysis, which of course is not going to happen.
Railways, CN and CP are the lifeline of Canada, and without them, we are dead in the water. I agree that they need to get their track maintenance in order, and improve their saftey record, plus hire a few more people to run their trains. However who will put the pressure on them. Harper is the best bet, however if he doesn’t do it, then it won’t get done.
Gosh Darn It and Golly Gee, Palopu, this was such a reasonably pleasant thread and then you just had to go and mention Harper! Are you trying to make somebody’s blood pressure rise! I can just see a certain someone’s red face and bulging eyes right now, haha!
Palopu states; “Railways, CN and CP are the lifeline of Canada, and without them, we are dead in the water.”
Really? I think we all know a lot of people that have died because of them, does Lac Megantic ring a bell?
Fortunately, this was a minor accident, but I think many who live in cities and towns that have railways running through them (PG, Vanderhoof, Fort Fraser, Fraser Lake, Burns Lake, etc.) are genuinely concerned about these increasing rates of CN Railway âaccidentsâ.
You mention politics and political parties in your comment Palopu, so who is in charge of Railway safety in this country, if not our Federal Government, through Transport Canada. Did you know that in the weeks and months prior to the Lac Megantic disaster, the railway industry was pressing for less safety inspections?
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/just-before-lac-m%C3%A9gantic-railways-sought-to-reduce-inspections-1.2522750
I think if we have a Lac Magantic, in one of our towns or cities, in northern British Columbia, we wonât be blaming dead train workers, we will be blaming CN Railway AND a Federal Government hell bent on deregulating transportation safety standards and laying off Transportation Canada safety inspectors!!!
The philosophy of Ayn Rand is far different from mine, People#1.
Hey, let’s shut all the big bad corporations down so nobody will have to go to work and nothing bad will ever happen! We can all just sit at home and collect a cheque.
Maybe People#1 can lead us in a lively rendition of Kum-by-ya?
So people#1 just wondering about your view on the 10000 plus deaths on roads each year and what would your solution be?
People# 1:
Lac Magantic was neither CN nor CP.

“Well we know Canadian National Railway has contributed approximately $250,000, in election campaign financing, to the Liberal Party of BC”
OK – so $269,000 over 9 years, or about 30,000 a year.
CN gave the NDP $21,000 and $22,500 from the McLean Group towards the 2013 Provincial election. Trade unions gave $2.5 million to the NDP and about $6,000 to the Liberals.
Harper must sure be a busy guy micro-managing everything that goes wrong or not “left” in this country. It is to laff.
Oh my, I count at least five straight comments directed at me. You boys flatter me so. *Takes a sip of wine*
Most of those comments are nit-picking, although slinky… you have been doing some research I see, keep that up and you will be smarter than the rest of the herd on here.
CN Rail sucks at life.
The bickering between some of the participants on this site is really quite uninteresting. Need something worthwhile to do with your time guys?
metalman
Wine, that’s the problem.
I don’t know about it being uninteresting metalman, if everyone agreed on everything, how boring would the world be?
I kind of wish people on here would stick more to discussing and debating the issues, however. It’s how we learn things. For example: I had no idea about the contemptible way the NDP treated a local sawmill company and got sued for it.
We can all rest easy knowing the opinion250 commenters getting to the bottom of the case!!!
I think we should have a competition which of the 250 most visited local blog sites will get to the bottom of the case first.
Let’s get the show on the road.
Who will locate the 250 most visited sites?
Who will assign people to 10 or so sites to monitor them?
Where can we post the best 3 of those as selected by each monitor of each group?
Who will take charge of the voting process?
Who will communicate our findings to the media?
Time to show what we can accomplish and get organized. :-)
No doubt about it gus, compared to any other Prince George, or regional, news blog site, this one kicks a$$! :-)
sorry, I noticed after I posted it I made a mistake with the use of the English language by not being clear enough when I wrote the phrase “the 250 most visited local blog sites”
I should have added a descriptive phrase such as “Canada wide” local blog sites. There are many across the country. Perhaps I was too aggressive with 250, but certainly there are 50 or so good ones, that meaning good in their locality.
A couple engineers and conductors will have their heads on the line as a result of this accident.
Hire me! I’ll drive a train…..

People#1, I relish diversity of opinion, it is the snide petty comments that I find boring.
metalman.
