Prince George, B.C. – It’s a big week for the organizers of the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.
Today at noon, Games CEO Stu Ballantyne and Board chair Anthony Everett will get together with Prince George MLAs Shirley Bond and Mike Morris and the MLA for Cariboo North, Coralee Oakes of Quesnel, on the steps of the legislature in Victoria. Oakes, who just happens to be the Minister of Sport and Cultural Development, will be making an announcement that has something to do with the 2015 games.
Tomorrow marks the official one-year anniversary to the start of the games and the milestone will be marked by a plaque dedication at 1pm at Canada Games House at 545 Quebec Street. This is the final plaque in a series of three left as a legacy to the City of Prince George. This third plaque will be in honour of the people volunteering their time and energy to the games effort.
Friday night there’s a Hedley concert inside CN Centre at 7pm followed by a fireworks show outside and above CN Centre.
And Saturday marks the official opening of the brand new Kin 1 arena and a community skate.
Ceremonies will include the Lheidli T’enneh Nation, Government of Canada, Province of B.C., City of Prince George, Canada Games Council, B.C. Sports Hall of Fame, 2015 Canada Winter Games and local performers.
Festivities run from 1 to 5pm at Kin 1. You’re asked to take your own skates to the free community skate.
