Prince George, B.C. – One of the more recognizable events of winter in Prince George, the annual Kelly Cup bonspiel, will not be taking place this spring.
The Curling Coordinator at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, Jana Peters, says that after a lot of discussion, debate and deliberation, a decision was made to cancel the 88th annual spiel. Club President Dan Martin says a few factors came into play: there are fewer curlers in the men’s league, the Kelly was to be held in the last week of Spring Break, and a lot of effort went into hosting the B.C. Scotties tournament.
Club officials are already working on bringing the Kelly Cup back in 2015.

That’s a shame
Shows what happens to a dying sport
Other people need to step up and volunteer. Too many volunteers get burnt out by doing all the work while others reap the benefits.
Volunteer once in a while people; it does a body/mind good.
not the first casualty of the winter games taking so much sponsorship cash
Prince George Golf and Curling Club is more like an old folks home. I think the average age of their membership is in the 60’s with little or no new blood coming in,.
Like a lot of other clubs etc; in Prince George , the writing is on the wall. We are moving into a new era, and it doesn’t include games that were popular back in the 50’s and 60’s,.
