Community Comes Out For Kin Opening
Ed Nicholls and his daughter, Kassandra Nicholls, prepare to hand out cake at today's Kin 1 opening
Prince George, BC – Getting ready to 'let them eat cake' at today's community celebration to mark the opening of the enhanced Kin Complex, was volunteer Ed Nicholls…
Nicholls brought along his daughter, Kassandra, who was home for a visit from Vancouver. While he says he's thoroughly enjoying his involvement in preparations for the 2015 Canada Winter Games, Nicholls jokes that he was 'volunTOLD' – meaning his wife told him he was coming to help out today.
Christine Nicholls is the 2015 CWG's Volunteer Workforce Manager. More than 4500 volunteers are needed for the games that are now less than one year away.
Also on-hand for today's festivities, were Samantha Dube and Jeff Peterhans, with their future athletes.
Two-year-old Szavanna was extremely pleased with her 'gold' (chocolate) medal, while three-month-old sister, Lexi Rea, wasn't quite sure what all the fuss was about.
The medals were being handed out by one of the Games' sponsors, Trans Canada and were a huge hit with both young and old, alike.
Another draw was the dress up table, five-year-old Andre Erickson (shown at left) was charming enough in his spiky hat, but insisted on adding the googly eyes before posing for a 250News photo.
The BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum had a display set up in the new lounge between the Kin 1 and 2 arenas.
And a free community skate on the Olympic-sized ice surface followed the official ribbon cutting.
