Taseko Contributes To Mental Health Facility
Prince George, B.C. – Taseko Mines has made a $1.5 million commitment to the building of a new Mental Health Facility at Vancouver General Hospital, replacing the present 70-year-old facility.
It is the laqrgest corporate contribution to the project and the funding, which would be provided over a three-year period, will gop toward the building of a new state-of-the-art facility, which will provide a therapeutic and healing environment for patients from across the province. The current facility is 70 years old, worn out, and in desperate need of replacement.
Taseko’s President and CEO Russell Hallbauer says “our operations are exclusively British Columbia based. We have over 700 people and their families living in the province, primarily in Williams Lake and the Cariboo region; and although this new facility will exist in Vancouver, it will be available to improve the lives of British Columbians, regardless of where they live. That is important to us. We are proud to make this contribution to mental health care and recovery on behalf of our employees and shareholders.”
Taseko Mines is trying to win regulatory approval of its proposed New Prosperity gold and copper mine near Williams Lake. Opponents claim the mine would pollute Williams Lake and endanger fish populations. An environmental review panel raised concerns about the project last year and Taseko Mines is making arguments in court supporting the project going forward. B.C. Mines Minister Bill Bennett and Cariboo-Prince George MP Dick Harris have been vocal supporters of the Prosperity Mine proposal.

If they win approval I wonder how their “donation” will change?
Taseko made a commitment if what?state-of -the-art facility-forgot world class.
here a company offer 1.5 million dollars, and all you guys can do is criticize.
Think about it. They will not be backing out of the commitment because the prosperity mine did not go ahead. Either way they are making this commitment.
The idea that a mental health facility in Vancouver would be ‘available’ to residents of the Cariboo is pretty ridiculous
Who are they trying to win over in Vancouver. One would think they’ would set up in Williams lake or Prince George. We do not have enough facilities for mental health here.

I was going to say something similar, but you beat me to it. Even the positive news stories draw negative comments.
As for the location, well, they are locating it where the majority of the population is.
Carpenter, Are they trying to win someone over? maybe, maybe not. But than again, may be the president and its board of directors, also recognize that they need to step up their game to become good corporate citizens of the province.
Mental illness is a lot more prevalent in our community than you think.
Thanks for the $1.5 million Taseko, hope nothing is expected in return.
We are talking about a Canadian Mining Company here folks, so I am just glad the locals are not being gang raped, tortured, and murdered.
Today VGH has 1.5 million more than last week…and the naysayers appear.I wonder how the donation to a hospital could influence a mining decision–if anyone knows, please let us know..
