Early, Or Late Bar Openings Permitted For Olympic Hockey
Prince George, B.C. – From the Scratch Your Head Department, this gem comes to you from the seat of government in Victoria.
The provincial government is giving permission, subject to local government bylaws, for pubs and bars to extend their operating hours for the bronze and gold Olympic men’s hockey games this weekend so that fans can get together to cheer their team on. One condition: no alcohol can be served during those extended hours.
There may be some who welcome a chance to get together at one common meeting place for the game and who feel they can have lots of fun without booze being involved.
The thing is the bronze medal game starts at 7 Saturday morning. Pubs and bars will be allowed to open at 6am. The gold medal game starts at 4 a.m., yes 4 a.m., on Sunday. Pubs and bars will be allowed to extend their hours so that patrons can stay and watch the game. Unfinished alcohol must be taken from the consumer within 30 minutes of when liquor service hours end for the establishment.
Oh and for establishment operators, if you plan on extending your hours for these games you have to let the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch know before noon Friday, February 21st, 2014 by email: lclb.lclb@gov.bc.ca

With no alcohol being served during the extended hours, is it OK to bring the entire family, or just the adults get to enjoy the comradeship and the sport competition of the Olympics?
Is there any more of a bureaucratic jurisdiction in the world than BC when it comes to alcohol distribution, let alone pricing? Just think of how many government employees it takes to come up with this stuff…
I agree JB.
Fortunately I don’t really care enough about hockey or drinking to do either at 4am ;)
Canada women win Olympic Hockey Gold fourth time in a row. USA silver medalists.
2018 … next chance.
Minors need to be kept out of pubs and bars.

Isn’t that how it was at Cougars games once?
“Minors need to be kept out of pubs and bars.”
Why is that?
Is it because they be influenced?
Is it because adults, even without alcohol, cannot control their behavior.
Remember, this is no alcohol, so what is the reasoning to prohibit their attendance?
I agree, miners should be kept out of pubs and bars. They have to release all that tension of high risk work as well as the emotional stress of being away from home for long periods of time.
Those do not mix well with alcohol.
Dont tell Britian about keeping kids out of bars…lol
Not sure why a kid can go to Moxies and not a bar.. just because the places classification. pubs and restaurants both serve alcohol, both have rules to follow when it comes to “serve right”
Last time I took my lady to the Keg we witnessed a few rather intoxicated young fellows at a table near a family with young kids.. but thats okay …
Who is Britian?
Stay at home and watch it GEEZ!
Now, that is totally anti-social and does nothing to support the local service industry.
What would those minimum wage slave tip earners live on if no one went to their venues?
England work better for you ?
Can they serve food still? If I can get wings and nachos I might go but if I have to sit there drinking water and no food I’ll just stay home.

What time is the game on Loki? I’m sure the slave tip earners would rather be home in bed rather that slaving away !
Maybe the city should open up the Multiplex for Sundays game! Or is it the cougars building I forget.
I agree with NoWay. Stay at home and watch the game.
For God’s sake its a hockey game. Duhhhhhh.
Watch where you want, main thing is I hope we are watching Canada win the gold :-)
News last night was saying the Olympic committee would like to cancel the woman’s hockey from the roster because Canada wins gold every 4 years…so, long ago when the Canadian men entered the winter Olympics for hockey, they cleaned house for years, and no mention of them cancelling it because they kept winning….the Woman from other countries just need to get better, these games are becoming closer in scores, but still Can. woman are winning. Go Canadian woman.

No they didn’t. If anything, it’s because there’s no parity in women’s hockey. It’s basically the US and Canada playing in the finals every time, then there’s everyone else.
