Competition Change At Canada Winter Games
Prince George, B.C. – The Canada Games Council Sport Committee has announced that the half pipe competitions for the 2015 Canada Winter Games have been cancelled and will be replaced by slopestyle snowboarding and slopestyle freestyle skiing.
Officials say the decision on the changes came after reviewing options and consultation with the National Sport Organizations and industry experts. They determined that snowmaking equipment would have been needed because a half pipe suitable for high level competition cannot be built entirely out of natural snow.
Tom Quinn, Chairman of the Canada Games Council. says “as snowboarding and freestyle ski participants at the Games compete in most events, we hope that a minimal number of the athletes will be affected negatively by this change.”
