Frosty One on Tap Today

Friday, February 28, 2014 @ 4:00 AM

Prince George, B.C. – This is  going to be  one very frosty final day in February.

Environment Canada is  predicting  cold winds of 30 km/h  gusting to 50 km/h today.  That wind will make it feel like minus 36 this morning, and a balmy minus 26 this afternoon.

There is more on the way tonight.  With an overnight low of minus 24, the wind chill will be around minus 35.

It  all means  a risk of frostbite if you are outside for any extended periods of time.  Exposed skin can freeze in 10 to 30 minutes.  Check  your face and  extremities for any numbness or discolouration.

Experts advise you:

  • dress in layers of warm clothing with an outer layer that is wind resistant,
  • that you cover any exposed skin,
  • wear a hat, mittens or insulated gloves, a scarf, neck tube or face mask and insulated, waterproof footwear
  • Stay dry
  • Keep active

In addition to making sure you bundle up, make sure your pets are  given proper shelter as well.

Spring is comming, comming, comming… So is christmas.

How’s that global warming doing? Maybe we should all drive around all day so we can warm PG up. I don’t think you need “experts” to give you the advice above, you just need have lived in the north to know all those things.

The problem is that many people look at one day, week, month, or year of weather and that is supposed to ‘prove’ something. It doesn’t. The earth has been around far longer than any of our fallible memories.

It never got as cold as predicted last night. Right now it is reported to be -10C at the airport with a windchill of -16C. The thermometer outside my window show -11C. Must be a bit of an inversion or my thermometer is off a bit.

Yesterday it was +1C in town, which was also significantly warmer than predicted.

How about those weather predictions ….. :-)

BTW, the temperature in Ottawa right now is -17C and it is after noon there already. Windchill is -18C.

Looks like we are in the tropics. We can start to sit outside on the southern side of the house and begin our 2014 tanning season …. Spring is here!!

yes downright tropical went looking for some suntan lotion yesterday couldn’t find any

Ah yes can’t wait for spring, when the winters accumulation of dog shit gets exposed.

Actually, this “polar vortex” is caused by arctic warming. Here is a link from “business week” no less. Read up on the phenomena and learn a bit.

Changes in the temperature of the earth’s surface is causing the jet stream to “wobble” this hasn’t happened in over 12,000 years, but we need to get use to this new climate phenomena now as well.

“this hasn’t happened in over 12,000 years”
Maybe Kennewick Man drove a juiced up diesel pickup? ;)

Actually pretty much everyone agrees that the planet under went a dramatic climate change approximately 12,000 years ago, resulting in the extinction at least 35 different mammal species, including the Wooly Mammoth.

Some believe it was caused by a comet, or asteroid hitting the earth. No matter, some “event” happened that caused the climate to radically change.

So if this is the first time in over 12,000 years that the jet stream has started to “wobble”, what event is causing it? Guess we can rule out a comet or asteroid hit, can’t we.

Too bad we couldn’t “sequester” the cold air instead of CO2.

Ah sorry that was when we entered this current interglacial. Temperatures higher then than now. The earth has been in constant ice age for about 2.5 million years with brief interglacials this interglacial being cooler than the previous ones.

Actually past climatic evidence polar vortec breakouts from the artic is evidence of a cooling climate. Since man evolved in the tropics why do we want a cooling climate? Where did that cold air in the polar vortex come from, THE ARTIC.

Yep Newsweek, CNN, cbc, global news, BBC, abc all very robust sources of unbiased climate information. You have to look past that big lettered traumatic headlines. Is that really where youget your information, really, I mean, really.

“News Flash” seamut; Newsweek, CNN, CBC, Global News, BBC, ABC are not the sources of unbiased climate information. In fact they get their climate information for accredited, reputable, scientific organizations and institutions.

Here is a list of some of those scientific organizations and institutions that confirm; global warming is real, it is here, and it is largely cased by human activity:

The following scientific organizations endorse the consensus position that “most of the global warming in recent decades can be attributed to human activities”:

American Association for the Advancement of Science
American Astronomical Society
American Chemical Society
American Geophysical Union
American Institute of Physics
American Meteorological Society
American Physical Society
Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society
Australian Bureau of Meteorology and the CSIRO
British Antarctic Survey
Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences
Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society
Environmental Protection Agency
European Federation of Geologists
European Geosciences Union
European Physical Society
Federation of American Scientists
Federation of Australian Scientific and Technological Societies
Geological Society of America
Geological Society of Australia
Geological Society of London
International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA)
International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics
National Center for Atmospheric Research
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Royal Meteorological Society
Royal Society of the UK

The Academies of Science from 19 different countries all endorse the consensus. 13 countries have signed a joint statement endorsing the consensus position:

Academia Brasiliera de Ciencias (Brazil)
Royal Society of Canada
Chinese Academy of Sciences
Academie des Sciences (France)
Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina (Germany)
Indian National Science Academy
Accademia dei Lincei (Italy)
Science Council of Japan
Academia Mexicana de Ciencias (Mexico)
Russian Academy of Sciences
Academy of Science of South Africa
Royal Society (United Kingdom)
National Academy of Sciences (USA) (12 Mar 2009 news release)

A letter from 18 scientific organizations to US Congress states:

“Observations throughout the world make it clear that climate change is occurring, and rigorous scientific research demonstrates that the greenhouse gases emitted by human activities are the primary driver. These conclusions are based on multiple independent lines of evidence, and contrary assertions are inconsistent with an objective assessment of the vast body of peer-reviewed science.”

The consensus is also endorsed by a Joint statement by the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC), including the following bodies:

African Academy of Sciences
Cameroon Academy of Sciences
Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences
Kenya National Academy of Sciences
Madagascar’s National Academy of Arts, Letters and Sciences
Nigerian Academy of Sciences
l’Académie des Sciences et Techniques du Sénégal
Uganda National Academy of Sciences
Academy of Science of South Africa
Tanzania Academy of Sciences
Zimbabwe Academy of Sciences
Zambia Academy of Sciences
Sudan Academy of Sciences
Other Academies of Sciences that endorse the consensus:

Australian Academy of Science
Royal Society of New Zealand
Polish Academy of Sciences

Isn’t it time you; “flat earth society” , “anthropogenic global warming deniers” stopped embarrassing yourselves?

They used to sequester the cold air in lake water before we had refrigerants. The put hay on top of it and stored it out of the sun, then cut it up, put it into a wagon, hitched some horses to it and delivered ice blocks to houses and left horse droppings all over the roads.

But we are having problems removing snow from the street around here, so imagine the horse chit report from Bill Gaal if we were living in 1950s.

Just curious but if we ( humans in total) were not here would we expect the climate to never change again?

Never said the climate does not change, it is always changing. The question is just how much effect man has if any at all. Dispute 100’s of billion spent no one can answer that. The rent seekers ate making much mola out of this and political entities all over the world push it for their agendas not science.

Did you know the five main sources of temperature show no cooling for twenty years and if adjustments are taken away there is a slight downward trend. Come refute something I say, younever do.

So the world was in a non climate change utopia before Mann, is that what you are saying. Oh the majority of those you named are making much money in sucking in research grants.

Why don’t you go over to WUWT, JONOVA, climate etc., climate audit and set them straight. Oh you are like Gore, Suzuki, Mann, Weaver and even our own Citizen’s science columnist no debate, no refuting, why is that? Suzuki made the mistake of trying to debate in Australia, it showed just how shallow he was on the subject.

Wow, Seamut, you must have started in on the sauce early this Friday.
And as usual, others (JB, for example) have weather and climate confused.
People #1 typically provides far more actual information, data, and links than almost anyone (Gus’ rants don’t count) yet he/she is constantly being dissed by the red-around-the-collar set for whom no fact will suffice.

Kristy peaple really didn’t say anything.

So peeps you believe consensus is science? At one time there was a consensus against plate tectonics and cause of common stomach ulcers. How will did those consensus work out?

Krusty not Kristy, auto correct.

Peeps think group think.

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/04/30/why-climate-science-is-a-textbook-example-of-groupthink/

“Climate certainty is baffling
It is not baffling that so many scientists believe humanity might be to blame for global warming. If carbon dioxide causes warming, additional CO2 should produce additional warming. But it’s baffling that alarmist climate scientists are so certain that additional carbon dioxide will produce a climate disaster, even though there is little empirical evidence to support this view, and much evidence against it, including a decade of non-warming. This dogmatism makes it clear, at least to those outside the alarmist climate paradigm, that something is very wrong with the state of “consensus” climate science.

There are many possible reasons for this scientific blindness, including sheer financial and career self-interest: scientists who don’t accept the alarmist paradigm will lose research grants and career doors will be closed to them. But one psychological diagnosis fits alarmist climate science like a glove: groupthink. With groupthink, we get the best explanation of “how can many, many respected, competitive, independent science folks be so wrong.”

It’s what’s called a religion. And in this day and age no one messes with anybody’s religion. It just ain’t done. Wanna change yer world? Quit exhaling CO2. Easy peasy.
