Job Fair Ready to Roll

Tuesday, March 4, 2014 @ 3:58 AM

Prince George, B.C.-  It is one of the largest job fairs  in Northern B.C, and it’s happening today at the College of New Caledonia in Prince George.

From 10 this morning to 3 this afternoon,  anyone looking for a job is encouraged to  drop in to the CNC atrium to  talk with  some of the  employers who will be on scene.

“We have about 35 different employers  scheduled to take part” says CNC Manager of Communications Annette Stevens. She  says  employers include the RCMP, the Rocky Mountain rangers, City of Prince George,  Canfor, accounting firms,  Northern Health, and the Canada Winter Games.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn more about  certain  jobs,  and to be able to  personally deliver your resume” says Stevens.  She says one  job seeker last year sparked  such interest from one of the  employers that an interview room was set up and the job seeker was hired on the spot.  “We will have an interview  room ready this year  to accommodate  those instant  interview requests”.

The Northworks! Job fair also  offers an opportunity for those who  have  yet to  choose a path for their career.  “People can  ask lots  and lots of questions , so it’s a chance to  investigate just what the  jobs are all about” says Stevens.

The Northworks! Job fair is now into it’s eleventh year.

Would be nice if these Job Fairs ran till six so others can check it out after work or something…

Hold it in the evening or on the weekend. What’s the point of holding it on a week day while most of the people who would like to attend are either in school or working.

If anyone seriously wanted a job they would make the time work. I wouldn’t want to hire someone anyway if they were only casually checking it out and then only if the time fit their schedule…

yeahh weekend sounds good.. Then will have a bigger pool to draw from..

So interceptor anyone can get away from work any time they want, ya right.

Yep should be till later in the evening. Those that still have a job looking for new opportunities can’t make it during these hours. I’m not sure if it’s all local companies at this fair but I know almost every company in the oil and gas industry (northern BC and AB) is hiring, though it is just before spring breakup right now.

Phone in sick to see if you can find a better job? What could go wrong?
