Logo and Interactive Info Opportunity Unveiled
Official logo of the Prince George Centennial celebration – photos 250news.
Prince George, B.C.- One year away from the official centennial celebration of the City of Prince George’s incorporation, the Committee that is arranging the party, has unveiled it’s logo.
Using the City’s “blue” colour, and the Lheidli T’enneh red, the logo calls on people to celebrate this centennial.
Something extra unveiled today at Exploration Place.
CEO Tracy Calogheros detailed a new online opportunity for people to help fill in the blanks about many of the photos and documents in the museum collection.
“The original archives were destroyed by fire in the ‘70’s, so we started rebuilding that collection with the Wally West collection” says Calogheros. But critical information that would help provide details of the people in the photos is missing. Exploration Place has set up a system where you can tweet, and share photos, and even add comments.
There are some steps to take before you can actually submit your comments though.
- Go to the Exploration Place website
- Click on collections
- Click on “Search the Collection” (not the “enter search” line on the right of the page)
- Enter your search words, and take it from there.
Or you can skip steps 1 and 2, by clicking here, and then click on “Search the Collection”
Prince George is in a great position to record its history says Calogheros “With the City being just 100 years old, there are still some who were alive when the City was incorporated, and there are many first generation descendents who can help us fill in the blanks.”
This new interactive online opportunity can not only help Prince George residents celebrate their own family history says Calogheros, it can also broaden the museum’s collection “The goal is to deepen our own collection, and to strengthen our knowledge about our pioneers and to really make sure that, that’s captured and expanded on.”

Looks like a swell beer bottle label at first glance. But that’s me.
Is that the Budweiser eagle?
– Insert snarky anonymous internet comment here –
Ok I will. That looks like a snowflake falling into a pothole for the city logo
It must be nice to be so much better than everyone else, how do you stand it?
On a more serious note ….. but then in a City full of people who do not care for accuracy of history at a time in our history when people in general do not care much for the past ….. I have been through many of the online pictures of exploration place and many of the photos are shown several times attributed to different years, many as much as 10 to 20 years apart. In addition, some buildings are occasionally given the wrong names, etc.
They simply do not have the money to hire technical people who have good image recall and the interest to be part of a quality archival team.
That said, it is nice to see that they are asking the public to assist with improving on the identification of what and who is depicted in photos. I will spend some time on it and I hope some others will as well.
I can’t find the logo on the pg100.ca web site.
Nice, clean looking web site as it is …… the logo resembles something I have seen in relation to the winter games…..
As far as the city logo goes, given recent events, it obviously depicts snow falling to create ruts on a divergent road – one leading to the right….. the other to the left … splitting the City ….
or, going in the other direction, the right meeting the left to join in a joined goal/direction …
I love logos whose symbolism can change based on one’s point of view and on the current history … :-)
Huh: “It must be nice to be so much better than everyone else, how do you stand it?”
Hey, somebody’s defensive today.
Feel free to go on and keep taking shots at me, Huh. Not much different than what Peeps does.

But it may be the store.
(supposed to be non-snarky tongue in cheek, maybe even funny).
Lighten up, if you know how!
That wasn’t a shot, that was a truthful fact. You usually are so condescending to most people on here and they are supposed to bow to your superior knowledge on just about everything. If they don’t then you portray yourself as some sort of hero who is a lone wolf and stands up for their point of view, when ironically you usually don’t have a point of view, except when it comes to portraying the fact you value money and economics over peoples’ well being time and time again. Again I say, how do you stand it?
It should either have every race represented that helped build pg or none at all.
PG: “Lighten up, if you know how!”
Couldn’t have said it better myself, PG.
As for Huh, if my comments give you such constant heartburn, I suggest you stop reading them.
Your online bullying attempts and attacks are not going to work against me, similar to Peeps. I will continue to comment as I see fit.
Huh: “You usually are so condescending to most people on here and they are supposed to bow to your superior knowledge on just about everything.”
I don’t know about that. I have an opinion like most people. But if your reference to my knowledge was a compliment, I will take it! ;-)
Come for news of the north, stay for the inevitable arguments. :)
“It should either have every race represented that helped build pg or none at all.”
It does for some people who can see different visions from the same symbol.
The symbol chosen for the City can also be interpreted as a multiple group of people coming from various northern hemisphere parts of the world converging onto the “City of Prince George”.
The snowflake represents the colder climate of the north. The snowflake in reality is white but in the logo it is represented as blue since white is not colour that is ideal to stand out strong on as many backgrounds as blue does.
The lines representing people is thus also white, thus firstly denoting the white race which is the dominant race to build PG in its early years.
The other notion one has to keep in mind that when it comes to the spectrum of colours, when all are present they produce white. White is a neutral colour.
I think the Caucasian race is well represented in the symbol. :-)
“Come for news of the north, stay for the inevitable arguments. :)”
Who would ever have thought that news was such a catalyst for discussion … oops … sorry … arguments those who are negative thinkers, right Captain Slashpile?
;-)
Okay, lets take a poll ….
All those who think those posting another opinion are entering into a discussion post “agree”
All those who think those posting another opinion are entering into an argument post “disagree”.
agree
At first I came on here to read the news, now I’m addicted to the who is taking shots at who aspect of it.
How to start an argument on the internet:
1. Post your opinion
2. Wait
agree
Speaking of beer labels, I recollect the Labbat 50 on a label. Just extrapolate and be politically inclusively correct. Should work.
Is there any money in the budget to fly some ex-PG folks back for the celebration?
I vote for Palopu to cut the cake!
NMG, you mean coming back next year is not on your calendar ?
C’mon, we can trade homes for a week ( a week when the Sens are on a homestand ).
Also, if it’s homecoming, shouldn’t we be having a big football game ?
How to start an argument on the internet:
1. Make a sarcastic remark about everyone who has a different opinion than you
2. Wait
= troll
Not as of yet middle finger, but your proposal sounds tempting.
Speaking of football though, my only caveat is that it can’t be when the RedBlacks are playing as I’m really looking forward to summer and fall evenings watching football by the canal.
Maybe they will have a high school game at Masich Place when I come out, hopefully they will have repaired the field by then ;)
Oh and go Sens! As much as it pains me to say it, playoffs are looking tough. They have been far too inconsistent this year. Taking my son to the Nashville game next week :)
Ha. Right on NMG.
The football reference is, because to me, homecoming is a big university party with a big football game.
I live amongst Canuckle fans. Go Sens Go.
Just sayin, I come here to read news from my home region, but the soap opera between some of you regular posters is more entertaining. I DO learn a lot from the comments, but there sure is a lot of petty squabbles between the regulars on here. Nothing wrong with that, its great fun to read.
