Prince George, B.C. – Perfect timing for a warming trend in the temperatures in the Prince George area.
Yes it may have resulted in slushy, slippery surfaces on roads and sidewalks but the people taking in the 2014 Spirit of the Rivers Loppet event at the Otway Nordic Centre this weekend likely won’t miss sucking in air at minus 20 or 25 degrees. The Loppet is a family-oriented, recreational style cross country skiing event, but there is a competitive skiing for some of the participants as well.
This is Free Technique cross country skiing with Open and Classic categories. The distances range from 2.5 to 30km and 135 skiers have registered for the event. The age range is from tots to over 60 years of age, and there will even be some ski bunnies riding in chariots.
There is one mass start with all categories leaving the start line at 10 am on Sunday.
The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club invites everyone out to the Otway Road location.
