Lakefront Property of an Unwanted Variety

Prince George, B.C. – It appears the City’s Streets and Utilities Divisions will have some extra hours to put in to get on top of the high water problems on some streets in Prince George.

For the past week the weather forecasters have been predicting warmer weather this weekend and they were right.  The temperature remained above zero overnight Friday and has been hovering around plus 5 all day Saturday.  The warm temperatures and spells of rain have resulted in a quick melt of the build-up of snow in the area.

The “puddle patrol” folks have been unblocking catch basins and keeping storm inlets clear.  However they are working from a catch-up position as evidenced by the photo taken on Domano Boulevard at the top of this article and Killoren Crescent above.

The City says crews working overtime today will be back tomorrow if needed.

Motorists are reminded that, while gunning it through a big puddle may seem like fun, the water could be deeper than expected and could be obscuring a hazard, such as a big pothole.

How fast do you think that Jeep is going?

Obviously, he/she doesn’t have much regard for walkers! Shame!!!

nor the alternator

Highland Drive a similar lake! They came right away and cleared the drains to get them going! Thanks to the City and the crew! It is a twice or three times annual event as the street elevation profile was done improperly in 1981!

Lower College Heights is floating away!

But-

Just had City of PG city works staff working to open the two storm sewer drains nearby and get the 12 inches of water to drain off our road. The ‘Lake’ was covering 3 houses’ worth of our little crescent, and growing! They used high pressure hoses to blast an opening to two storm sewer grates. Yeah! and down it went – phew….

the crews were out at around 4 30 in ch. scared to drive through this. Thanks to the city workers working in this mess.

To bad they did not keep the drains clear all winter, instead of putting snow on top of them.

An ounce of prevention can go a long way.

That would take half a brain Pal. There are those here on this site that think taxpayers should look after clearing their own drains, even little old ladies.

A huge thanks to the City crews, they were everywhere today and did a great job!

Such a great job they just closed Upland at the underpass. Awesome job!

Where’s our well compensated and benefitted City staff to clear those drains? I sure as heck am not going to lift a finger to help out around here. ;-)

Also, why do people have the uncontrollable urge to drive so fast through those puddles? Besides the fact that you could damage your vehicle, you could also spin out and lose control. Morons.

Agreed! Sure looks like they are giving the poor guy on the sidewalk a shower! Can almost make out the license plate number in the photo!

I found it to be ridiculous. We had a huge puddle on our street creeping up to the houses. My neighbour called the city because it was RIGHT at his house. City’s answer…”call us when it’s in your house”. He called repeatedly and they only came after his basement started flooding. It’s a joke.

It’s been posted before but bears repeating; Can anyone at the City of Prince George read a freakin’ weather forecast? Why in gods name weren’t these crews out during regular work hours all week at known trouble spots freeing up drains? That would have freed up a lot of time to get to the other areas. Incompetence! Hey, it’s only taxpayer money, lot’s more where that came from

Sigh…..okay. Palopu, Dragonmaster, lets hear your expertise on snow removal. And please don’t just generalize. Be specific. Tell us how the equipment and operators should function, we don’t want any snow or ice on our lawn or the catch basin. We don’t want any snow where we drive. I can’t drive 90 in the 50 zone yadda yadda yadda………

Next week you can cry and whine because the snow plow scraped the pot hole patches off the street. Arizona is calling boys, life is all perfect there guys. (If your white) Trust me.

When I am walking and there are big puddles along the roadway, I watch for oncoming traffic that may splash me as they go by. A big rock or a big chunk of ice in my hand, hefted up and down as I look at motorists coming at me, really seems to make them slow down and take care not to splash me. I just let them know in that way, that if they do, they will not get away unscathed. Seems to work. Besides, it is a driving offence to splash pedestrians.

I dont know about others, but if I see a guy wandering around hefting a big rock looking at traffic threateningly I would probably call the police. Or loony bin. ;)

I agree totally with Middle Finger. Any you whiners that have a better way that would keep every person happy lets hear it.
