Avalanche Claims Life
Blue River, B.C.- One person has died, having succumbed to injuries suffered in an avalanche last evening.
RCMP report the Clearwater detachment was contacted about 7:20 last night and advised a snowmobiler had been buried in an avalanche in the back of Red Sand Mountain north of Blue River, B.C.
Police were told a group of snowmobilers had gone into the back bowl of Red Sands Mountain at which time an avalanche occurred, burying two people.
The group raced to the location to dig them out and immediately found one person. The second male, a 36 year old male from Lloydminister, Saskatchewan, was located but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
Clearwater Search and Rescue and the BC Coroner were unable to enter the site last night due to the high avalanche risk.
The BC Coroner along with 2 Avalanche Technicians and Clearwater SAR were flown to the scene by helicopter this morning.
