Cougars Defeat Blazers 8-3 In Final Regular Season Game of 2013-2014.
What a way to end the regular season for the Prince George Cougars who defeated the Kamloops Blazers 8-3. Two massive milestones were reached, including: Todd Fiddler recording his 50th goal of the season, and Troy Bourke became the all-time Cougars leading scorer with a goal and three assists.
The first period belonged to Troy Bourke, who opened the scoring to tie Eric Hunter’s franchise record of 233 career points, and then assisted on Brad Morrison’s go-ahead goal later in the first to surpass Hunter’s mark. For Bourke, it took 276 games to record 84 goals and 150 assists. It was 2-1 for the Cougars after one.
Less than a minute into the second period the Cougars took a 3-1 lead when Todd Fiddler beat Bolton Pouliot on a breakaway. For Fiddler it was his 47th goal of the season, and that goal officially gave him the second highest goal total in a season for a Cougars forward.
Kamloops quickly moved back within a goal, but late in the period Fiddler notched his 48th of the season on a point shot from the power play, and Fiddler headed into the third period needing just two to reach the 50 goal mark.
Kamloops would once again make it interesting early in the third when Deven Sideroff tucked one home in the first minute to make it 4-3, but Klarc Wilson then responded a few minutes later with his 27th of the season to make the score 5-3.
Todd Fiddler then scored in a shorthanded breakaway just over a minute later to make it 6-3, which meant he needed one more goal in the final 14:19 of the game to become just the second Cougar EVER to reach 50 goals in a season.
At 15:50 of the third period, Fiddler became the second Cougar ever to reach the 50-goal mark when he knocked home a Troy Bourke rebound in front of the goal. Fiddler’s celebration was ecstatic, and for good reason. The Cougars led 7-3 and Fiddler had his fourth goal of the game!
Sam Ruopp completed the game’s scoring a few moments later.
For 20-year-olds Todd Fiddler, Klarc Wilson and Peter Kosterman, a heck of a way to end their junior hockey careers. All three got onto the scoresheet, and all three were named stars to end the game.
The Cougars end their season with a record of 27-37-3-5, a six win improvement and a 12 point improvement from a season ago.
The Cougars would like to thank all of the valuable contributors who helped define the 2013-2014 season.

And no playoffs. Not much to celebrate here.
PGguy1234….the boys gave us plenty of reasons to celebrate their final game. Do you really need to rain on their parade?
SO how could we maybe have had a parade for 8th spot?? in my opinion our greatest failure was not keeping Mac Engel as a proven goalie even though he was a 20 yr old..our younger goalies were hot or cold, but more cold..i believe Edmonds will be our best future prospect..keeping Engel would have eliminated Koosterman who was an average defenceman at best…Fiddler was a tremendous addition and without him we would have been dreary on offense and Bourke and Wilson would not have achieved as many points as they did.. will Grewal and Forsberg be in coach’s doghouse and on the trade block?? I am looking forward to changes in ownership, otherwise community support will dissipate!!
bc: “I am looking forward to changes in ownership, otherwise community support will dissipate!! “
Community support has already dissipated. Simply changing owners will not bring success overnight.
They announced Hamhuis as new owner on the Canucks radio broadcast. Was entertaining game, Submitted kinda lays it on a little thick on most reviews, but it was last game of the Brodsky era. Sad seeing Dallas up in the press box…. Dead man walking ..
I will be purchasing my seasons tickets again for the simple fact that there is an ownership/management change. That is the only reason.
