Potholes and Parking Rates on Council Agenda
Prince George, B.C.- Tonight, Council for the City of Prince George will be asked to give final reading to the rollback of offstreet parking rates. The change would mean rates would be rolled back as of May 1st this year, but incremental increases would be put in place for 2015 and the years moving forward.
Councilor Frank Everitt was one of the Councilors who put forth that requested rollback. Everitt is advising his Council colleagues through a notice of motion, that he will be bringing forth a new motion to call for a review and possible rescinding of the bylaw that requires legal secondary suite owners to buy a business license. That issue is not expected to be actually dealt with by Council until the next regularly scheduled meeting.
The Director of Operations will be presenting a pothole patching report (see previous story) which indicates the major problem areas are on roads that are already designated for road rehab projects this year.
You can report a pothole by filling out a form on the City's website, or by calling City Hall at 250-561-7600
Mayor Shari Green is recommending the dissolution of the Core Review Committee as the work of that committee has been completed.
Another of the Core Services Review recommendations is expected to be put to rest. You may recall there was a recommendation calling for a cost benefit analysis on the Nechako branch of the Library as there was a thought dollars could be saved if that branch was closed. The decision on the future of any library branch rests solely with the Library Board, but as it turns out the analysis provided a great deal of positive information about the Nechako branch. Council will be asked to approve taking no further action on this item.

Fill out a form to report a pothole.
How about, the city workers drive around and fill the potholes. Or is it the intentions of the city to see how many complaints that they get on a particular pothole to determine if it needs to be filled.
Seriously, your expecting the public to report in a pothole. You expect them to be so infuriated about a pothole, that they will take the time to fill out a form.
How about, we the tax payers don’t ask for much. Just do your job.
In addition to the $5 Million in the road rehabilitation fund, the City has also received some $5.4 Million from the Federal Governments Gas Tax Fund. This would be money for 2013 and 2014. So the City will spend some $10 Million on paving, and upgrading roads in urban areas, including pot holes.
This expenditure should by this fall get rid of one hell of a lot of pot holes, however there is much more to be done.
We have a problem in Prince George in that we are hell bent to pave streets, even though some of these streets will have to be torn up to repair water and sewer lines.
We have to come to grips with repairing water and sewer lines. Its not good enough to be walking around with hat in hand waiting for Federal money for infrastructure.
The Federal Government has earmarked $30 Million in Gas Tax Funding for Prince George for the next 10 years. This money should be spent on water and sewer lines, in addition to some on road rehab. The money should not in any way, shape, or form, be spent on a PAC.
Keep your eye on the ball.
Gus – where are you? Your comments are missed as it had facts and figures to them.
I am with you woodwoman, Gus you have been hibernating long enough now. Time to back.
should read, time to come back
We drove all our town today to keep some appointment! At times the air was thick with dry dust as if we were driving on a busy gravel logging road!
Not a single sweeper seen in operation anywhere, be it YRB or the City!
What is going on, when are you going to start doing your job???
How about every individual in Prince George grabbing a broom and sweeping their streets and fill the potholes with dust and gravel and when the city gets around to it they can vacuum out the potholes and fill them with cold asphalt which will last at least a week. Not a calendar week but a business week.
Pal:”The money should not in any way, shape, or form, be spent on a PAC.”
For goodness sake, don’t give them any ideas, please!
you do recall it snowed two days ago right? There are few things that drive me crazier than seeing a sand truck out AFTER the sweepers have gone by
Start sweeping. If it needs to be swept again, do it again. Breathing that extremely fine dust is harmful. We are paying more than enough taxes to expect ongoing service. I see graders come by to clear the roads that have just been sanded. It doesn’t drive me crazy.
Breathing those fine particulates is a recognized health hazard.
Thats a good point PrinceGeorge except if memory serves correct, it doesnt get done again for about two months :(
I imagine it is tough to sweep when it’s minus 13 every night.
