Prince George, B.C.- It is daffodil time!. Mayor Shari Green was on hand to help raise the Canadian Cancer Society’s flag over Prince George City Hall this morning. She has declared April as “Daffodil Month.”
The sale of bunches of daffodils is about to get underway, and daffodil pins will also be available.
Last year, sales of daffodils and the pins raised about $30 thousand dollars in the Prince George region. “We’d like to beat that for sure and have folks in the community support us this weekend” says Marjo van Helvoirt Koop, Coordinator for the Annual Giving programs with the Canadian Cancer Society’s BC and Yukon division.
The dollars raised will go towards helping to support Kordyban Lodge as well as support programs and health promotion efforts.
Every three minutes, a Canadian is diagnosed with cancer. The daffodil pin is a sign of hope and shows support for those on a cancer journey .
Two in five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetimes. But by wearing the daffodil this April, Canadians can show them they are not alone in their fight.
Daffodil pins will be available for a donation at several retail locations in Prince George throughout April.
“Please show your support and encouragement to those living with cancer,” says Marjo van Helvoirt Koop , “Wear the daffodil this April because we truly are all in this together.”
Volunteers will be selling pins and flowers at a number of retail outlets in Prince George this weekend.
