New Vote on Conifex Deal

Monday, March 31, 2014 @ 1:38 PM

Mackenzie, B.C.- It was a standing room only  crowd at a meeting last evening in Mackenzie to talk about the  tentative  deal  between 200  United Steelworkers and Conifex.

The Mackenzie Conifex workers had  said no to the  package, and had voted overwhelmingly in  favour of strike action,  action they were prepared to take as early as tomorrow morning.

However, Local 1-424 staff met with the workers in  Mackenzie last night,  and  clarified  concerns about  provisions that  are, or are not, in the tentative contract.

The membership voted at that meeting to  hold another  ratification vote on the tentative deal.

That ballot will take place tomorrow.

Final results should be known tomorrow evening.

The tentative agreement has already been accepted by  Conifex  sawmill workers in Ft. St. James.
