Prescribed Burns Could Start Today Near Chimney Lake
Williams Lake, B.C.- If weather permits, prescribed burns could start today in the areas near Chimney Lake and Felker Lake.
A series of burns will take place between now and mid May.
These prescribed burns will be managed by the ministry's Recreation Sites and Trails Branch and will be conducted with the assistance of Wildfire Management Branch staff from the Cariboo Fire Centre.
These burns are intended to lower wildfire hazards in the following areas:
• Felker Lake Recreation Site
• Chimney Lake Recreation Site (north site)
• Chimney Lake Recreation Site (central site)
The burns will reduce the threat of a major wildfire as any future fires will have less fuel available as accumulations of grass and shrubs will have been destroyed through the prescribed burn process.
Trained Wildfire Management Branch personnel will carefully monitor the fires at all times.
