Things That Make You Wonder

Prince George, B.C. – It appears not even the Prince George Public Library is safe from the clutches of thieves these days.
On Thursday afternoon a thief or thieves went into the Bob Harkins, downtown branch of the library and stole a projector that was in the Keith Gordon Room. The lights had been dimmed in preparation for a program. The loss of the projector would have caused the cancellation of a Pro-D Day film showing on Friday afternoon, and the video component of the “So, you want to be an astronaut” program for kids, which is running from 1-2:30 this afternoon. And already operating on a tight budget, replacement of the projector would have placed a substantial financial burden on the library.
Funny how things happen sometimes though. Teen Librarian Amy Dawley was walking her dog at a local dog park and told the projector story to another dog owner who said, “I think I can help you with that.” That person turned out to be Matt Sheehy, Interim General Manager at the Spruce Credit Union. And in one of life’s displays of yin and yang, the interconnection of opposite or contrary forces, the Spruce Credit Union presented the library with a cheque to cover the costs of replacing the projector almost immediately, and in time for the equipment to be ordered and expedited to Prince George.
“This community really comes together when institutions like the library and literacy need help,” says Acting Chief Librarian Janet Marren, “It’s really amazing.”
Oh by the way, to all of the thieves out there, the library wants you to know that security has been increased to hopefully catch you in the future.

Thieves like this are so disgusting. A big thank you to the Spruce Credit union though.
No doubt the thieves are well known to the law. Thank you to the Spruce Credit Union!
Its getting pretty sad when someone has to steal from a library.
We never leave the Car alone , only one of us goes in at a time, it has changed over the Years, interesting to watch them walking
by at the Cars and looking in.
What kind of a low life would steal a projector from the library? The library is there to serve everyone, of all ages, throughout the area.
I am a strong supporter of the Nechako Library and I feel very strongly about preventing City Council interference or individuals stealing from the library as is mentioned in this article. The two are closely related, considering the extremely inefficient City Hall operations.
