Kitimat Bridge Fall
Kitimat, B.C. – Kitimat RCMP say a 23 year old woman is recovering in hospital after surviving a 30-40 foot fall from a local bridge early Sunday.
Investigators say the woman was part of a group of people crossing the Haisla Bridge at approximately 4:47. Police say it appears that she jumped over the rail to avoid a truck crossing the bridge not realizing that there was no pedestrian walkway on the other side of the rail.
Emergency crews were able to find the woman on a log jam below suffering from non life-threatening injuries. She was treated in Kitimat and Terrace before being transferred to Vancouver.
RCMP say the woman was not a local resident and alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.
While investigators say they don’t believe the person at the wheel of the truck was driving in an erratic manner, they would like to speak with the driver.
