Vancouver, B.C. – Trevor Linden has held his first media conference since being officially named the new President of  the Canucks.

Considered the most popular player in the  history of the franchise,  Linden  joined  Canucks Sports and Entertainment Chair, Francesco Aquillini in the media room at Rogers Arena  this hour.

“Wow what a day” says Aquillini, “I am thrilled to announce Trevor Linden  is back where he belongs”

Linden started his remarks saying he wanted to “thank the Aquillini’s for believing in me.”

Linden left the team 6 years ago, but says it always remained a goal of his to work with the team again, although he never knew what capacity that might be.

He says he believes he is ready for the challenge.  “I believe in this team and this organization.”

Linden says  this move was only anticipated “very recently, and here we are today.”

Aquillini says he has kept contact with Linden over the years, “And when I presented the opportunity to Trevor, well, here we are.”

The search for a General Manager has begun, Linden says it will first start from “within” and then external.

He says the timing of the announcement will give him  lots of time to assess the coaching  situation,  and he only met John Tortorella  for the first time this morning.  “Any coaching decision will be made  in due time after a thorough examination.”

Linden says he knows there will be lots of challenges, “but I love to learn and I believe I am  quick to learn.”

Hey Trev you and I go way back. How about letting me manage the team for a while?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Smyl as GM or possibly even coach next year.

I hear Thompson may be looking for work!!!

The Canucks are posturing to be a contender.

Is tiger still around?

The Holy Trinity…

Linden as Pres
Naslund as GM (he was GM of Modo)
Smyl as ass kicking Coach

Naslund couldn’t fire anyone. He wouldn’t make a good GM. Naslund would make a good scout.

I think the only person Vancouver should be going after right now for GM is Brendan Shanahan. He is tough as nails and played with world class skill sets in all areas. A guy with a work ethic like that is going to surround himself with others that have that work ethic… and nobody in the league knows todays players better. Shanahan would be the perfect wingman for Linden. They played international hockey together and worked closely during the player lockout… a classic god cop bad cop combination in the making.

Then let Shanahan make the coaching decision, because as GM the coach will be working directly for the GM. Stan Smyl would be a good choice.

I won my hockey pool this year. That should look good on my resume when I send it down.
