Avalanche Warning in Effect
Prince George, B.C.- The Canadian Avalanche Centre says the avalanche danger is expected to make a sharp rise this weekend all across the Northern part of the province.
The avalanche warning applies to the Cariboos, North Rockies, and the coastal and inland mountains in the Northwest .
“The clear skies forecast for Saturday following all that new snow will be very tempting for backcountry users of all types,” says CAC Avalanche Forecaster Shannon Werner. “But the temperature is predicted to rise significantly, which means the avalanche danger will spike this weekend. The storm snow will be primed for triggering and deeply buried weak layers are also likely to be a concern.”
The CAC says if the forecast plays out as predicted, backcountry users in northern BC will need to be extremely careful and make very conservative terrain choices.

Seem we have had avalanche warnings all year.
Cheers
Yes we have, every year. Sad how the “doesn’t apply to me” or “I have a beacon, shovel & probe, I’m safe!!” attitudes kick in no matter how dire the warnings are. A person would think, if they bothered to trend data, that a good portion of avalanche deaths occur after the warnings….Hmmm…
Exactly detoe43. There are a certain segment that ignore the warnings and believe that it won’t happen to them. Those are the people that become statistics.
In a perfect world, we wouldn’t even need the warnings and people would have enough common sense to know when the conditions are bad. But, government continues to try to protect us from ourselves.
About the only thing they don’t say is “I told you so.”
When I saw just the headline, I was sure that the CAC was warning that the slopes of the snow storage on Foothills at 15th were starting to slide with the thaw. ;-)
