Kitimat Residents Voting On Northern Gateway Project
Kitimat, BC – Residents living in Kitimat are voting today in a non-binding plebiscite to determine their support for Enbridge's Northern Gateway Pipeline project…
Approximately 5,000 residents living in the District of Kitimat are eligible to vote, as the municipal council makes good on a resolution passed in January of 2012 to survey local residents on the project.
The question being put to voters is:
Do you support the final report recommendations of the Joint Review Panel (JRP) of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and National Energy Board, that the Enbridge Northern Gateway project be approved, subject to 209 conditions set out in Volume 2 of the JRP's final report?
Residents have a choice of answering yes or no.
Two polls – at the local sports complex and middle school – opened at 8am and will remain open until 8pm.
