No one cares
I’m sure that the members will be happy to be finally moving into their new digs. Its been a long wait.
Since when has Easter Monday been a statutory holiday?
P Val, I and many others do care!
Yes many of us do care. I hope they enjoy their new building, it’s been long overdue.
When I consider that the nicest building in town is the police station I just shake my head and figure we’re nothing but a hick town trying to act like a big city.
This move has been in the news at least five times, always with a new date.. It’s has become old news to the point of it not being news. Policing will not get better because of a new building.. The police ran the other one into the ground so who wouldn’t expect the same with this one.
The only thing for sure is the traffic around that building is going to be horrible.
$40+ dollars of our tax money gone to produce this bureaucratic show piece, far beyond the needs of a police station. Who is the architect who will brag up the accomplishment? What will the total cost be by the time the taxpayers of PG repay the loan? Another PG Council blunder at our expense!!!
“The police ran the other one into the ground so who wouldn’t expect the same with this one”.
Your remark just shows your ignorance as the building is owned by the City and they are in charge of the maintenance. The size, design and financing of this building had nothing to do with the police but rather with the last city council.
Not to be argumentative PVal, but it is the City of Prince George who are responsible for (the lack of) maintaining the existing RCMP building.
Lack of planning-care-expertise-budget are what allowed the indoor environment to become run down. To be fair, I suppose there are more people working there now, compared to when the place opened, not withstanding there were two court rooms on the main floor as well, for the first few years.
I still say that they should have added two floors, put in a new elevator and h.v.a.c. system, replaced the plumbing and run for another forty years but hey.
Dumbest decision regarding the NEW police station (except for the goofy colour scheme on the metal panels) eliminating enclosed parking below the new structure.
metalman.
If I help them move will they give me some beer? All the friends I helped move over the years gave me beer. And when I moved I gave my pals beer for their help.
I understand the architect for this cop shop was none other than Art Vandelay. But don’t let it get around.
So long as we don’t have any idle Russians around the next few weeks things should go alright for them.

……………
Your 100% correct axman Easter Monday “is not” a statutory holiday along with Boxing day.
most govt employees get Easter Monday as a Stat as well as Boxing Day.
oh but family day isn’t a stat for most Federal employees.
I still hold the people who use the building accoutable to its care, making sure its not ruined or destroyed .. may be silly but thats just me.
The size of PG has not changed in decades and yet we have 2 shiney new cop shops.. what a waste of money.
“The size of PG has not changed in decades and yet we have 2 shiney new cop shops.. what a waste of money.”
Yes two new public service buildings, and a Walmart, Home Depot, Costco, SuperStore, Target, New Parkwood Mall, Pine Centre upgrades, Expanded Auto Dealerships, many new and renovated Hotels, a Casino, expansion of UNBC, expansion of UHNBC, Cancer Clinic… I could go on and on.
P Val, your bias against the police is clearly showing. Is your problem with the building or it’s tenants? Please explain how this building is a waste of money?
Castle Grey Skull : Flashy, serves very little purpose for it’s foot print and just a really nice place to enjoy your doughnut.
It’s a problem with wasting tax payers money. It’s on prime land..to much was spent on trying to make it look pretty. It’s going to make parking even worse. It’s going to add more traffic to downtown.
There’s a few for you evo
I dont see the Timmies sign. This building is a total disrespect for money, costs, and tough times. Its not even a nice looking building. Is it really going to change our crime here? The old building should have been repaired. After all it was engineered to last 100 years. It absolutely could have been fixed up.
The other major new station is that of the RCMP’s North District headquarters with responsibility for overseeing the policing of the entire northern half of the province – that’s provincially and federally funded. A second installation is the Gangs and Drugs task force building – a federal operation. The old city police station had a number of significant problems. First, modern technology required considerably more work space for the additional officers. Second, the old building is deteriorating inside with broken concrete, mold, and other hazards – it simply was not an option to keep that building in operation. Third, the city detachment had really outgrown that building and a new building was a necessary expense in order to provide better services. The new city station will serve Prince George far better.
