Anyone that needs to renew a Driver’s licence should count on half a day experience! They have a number system there now ” serving #100″! The place was packed ! I left after 30 minutes and the number only advanced 3 . Should change the name from BC Access Centre to Non-Access Centre !

In the past week I have nearly been hit on 5 different occasions at 4 stop sign controlled intersections by people running the stop signs at the last incident which happened today a woman in a green Yukon SUV ran the stop sign at 17th and Spruce at 4:10pm narrowly missing my backend she got out and she was on a cell phone in one hand yapping on it in the other was an IPod with music. Mating out of it. She got out looked around saw me coming towards her jumped back into her vehicle and sped off.

It’s getting real scary out there that people are willing to ignore the laws because it inconveniences them my phone is in a pocket that I can’t access while driving without contorting myself yet too many people out there flaunt their lack of respect for the laws then get upset when they are caught and waste taxpayer money fighting a ticket because they got caught then moan and gripe about how unfair the laws are and why don’t the police go after real criminals instead of nailing them with a ticket

I went to the Icbc claims center to renew my licence. In and out in less than ten minutes.

I agree, the B.C. Access office in Prince George is a joke. They need to open 4 or 5 offices throughout Prince George. In Alberta there are privately run Registry’s. They’re all over the place, some have line ups, some not so much. When there is a line up, you make it through quickly, because all the wickets are OPEN!

Have a great weekend everyone :-)

It is interesting that we do not have such private offices in BC. They have them in Washington state as well. One of the grocery chains there has several such services in many of their stores, including medical clinics such as is now in Superstore in PG. Down there they are managed by nurse practitioners.

I have been getting caught up on the debate over fluoridated water.

It is amazing that rather than properly informing people, such as medical doctors have to do these days to gain informed consent from patients, Northern Health operates totally differently giving out only the information which supports the fluoridation of water. Even used car salesmen have to disclose known conditions of cars as do realtors about known conditions of properties and buildings.

There is more and more legitimate, peer reviewed research information coming out which they ignore completely. How are people who will be voting on this issue in the fall going to become informed voters if there is no organization which they can trust to provide complete, objective information on both sides of the issue?

Even TV ads for pharmaceuticals these days spend more time during their 30 second spot cautioning about contra-indications when taking a drug than speaking about the effectiveness of the drug.

PG is the last large city which is holding out on this. Only about 150,000 people are still on municipal fluoridated water in BC.

B.C. mother said she could no longer care for severely autistic 16-year-old son before committing murder-suicide

The reason that nothing can be built on the land between the Ranch Motel and the Connaught Inn is the same reason the land on Victoria St. by the Work Safe B.C. building is, there were gas station there. That means contaminated soil, and nobody wants to clean it up. Nobody wants to buy it from the present owners (oil company’s), because the first cost before devoleping the property is cleaning the soil. It’s criminal that these oil companies can leave the property in this condition. However, there is no law to force them to clean it up, and in the mean time, you have two unsightly property’s unusable.

In Calgary, they have a special place at the landfill site to deal with contaminated soil. You load it up, dump it at there site, they deal with it. New dirt or gravel is hauled in and a new building arises. Pretty simple to me. Those sites I mentioned above have been there for ever. It really is criminal.

Taxi

Sorry, I just thought of two more contaminated sites. The BIG one is the Ed Delorme site that everybody keeps talking about for the PAC. Right beside there is the car rental outlet. That originally was a Phillips 66 if I remember rightly. There definitely was a gas station there. So, if the City obtains all this property, will they have to clean it up, or slip under the RADAR.

Another old gas station lot is 17th and Queensway. It was a Texico outlet, and Ed Delorme was the proprietor. The property has never been cleaned, and remains an eyesore. Again, nobody responsible.

That was three sites, sorry :-)

A neighbour is 4 yrs. younger than her husband who began collecting his CPP cheques 3 yrs ago…..before Harper’s changes to CPP…..she just began collecting her cheque and its a net 103.00 less per month than hubby’s. Granted, there is a cost of living raise in hubby’s, but she is receiving substantially less due to Harper’s changes. Don’t believe for a minute the actuarial changes propoganda Harper stated at the time. Also, Harper took out a whopping 24 billion in tax reduction out of the economy by giving out Corpirate tax breaks and Corporate welfare and by reducing GST. Canadians will be losing their medicare system in the future because of Harper’s policies. Also the Temp. Foreign Workers program is an attack on Canadian middle class and is quickly turning the middle class to an under class. Harper is one of the worst Prime Ministers this country has ever had.

———-

Maybe she hasn’t contributed as much or for as long as her husband had?

What changes are you referring to?

The problem with contaminated land is that the current owners cannot get off their pollution liability through a sale. They are liable until it proves green…Allen’s scrap and salvage was like that…

Municipal Bylaw Officers should tackle this one – before a Sale sign can be place, the contaminated land should be proven green, if not issue penalty for every year not ….. better idea then the was once business license for rental… give your head a shake.

Isn’t that what I said contractor. But, if there was a site where the contaminated soil could be taken to and dealt with, thus allowing these lots to be sold. I said LAWS, that need to be put in place to these lots don’t stay vacant. I think I mentioned that also contractor!

Dearth: I hope you reported them if you got a license number. If I have a close call, I always ask myself what I did to put myself in that situation? What did I not see or anticipate? Driving is a continual learning process.
Because of that, I have very few emergency situations nowadays.
To report a bad driver, you should have a license number, make and description of the vehicle and a description of the driver if possible. Call 250-561-3300, ask for dispatch, then the traffic section. The police nearly always get back to me on the call. If its an emergency call 911. I have gone after bad drivers, taken pictures and reported them. The police are very appreciative of good information.

Taxi: I remember them digging up that lot at 10th and Victoria one winter and removing the soil. They had to go right out under the pavement a bit. You should remember, I think you were driving taxi then. They had testers on site while excavating.
The soil at 17th and Queensway was all dug up and piled under a plastic tarp, I presume with bacteria added, to clean it up.

A very good exclamation, people need to wake up.

Media Refuse to Publish Mayor’s Critique of Smart Meters

April 23, 2014

The following guest editorial about smart meters was written by John Ranns, the longtime Mayor of the District of Metchosin on southern Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Mayor Ranns wrote this guest editorial in November 2013 and submitted it for publication to the Victoria Times-Colonist and subsequently to other major newspapers in British Columbia. When his secretary followed up with the Victoria Times-Colonist about the status of his submission, the newspaper said it would not be publishing the piece because the piece was not topical. Mayor Ranns received no other replies from major media, and ultimately no major media outlets published his piece.

Read for yourself the opinion that British Columbia’s news outlets saw unfit to print.

Guest Editorial on Smart Meters

by John Ranns, November 2013

What I find most disturbing about BC Hydro’s forced imposition of smart meters is how readily politicians of all parties have abandoned fundamental principles of a free society in order to accommodate bureaucratic expediency. Individual freedom demands that government has boundaries. As far back as the 1600s the concept that individuals need sanctuary from government was established in British Common Law (still applicable in British Columbia), clearly stating that your home is your castle and the sovereign will not cross your threshold without following due process. Except now they have. In one stroke, the Province is saying that lawful citizens no longer have a choice in what enters or leaves their homes.

Although debate has been carefully steered to encompass technical arguments and ignore principle, there are two facts about smart meters that cannot be denied: They emit radiation into your house. And, when Hydro chooses, they will gather and disseminate personal information, which previously would have required a court order.

Whether the radiation is harmful or ultimately proves to be safe is not the point. What is critical to the issue is that many people believe it to be harmful, and now their sanctuary, along with their peace of mind, is denied them. Nor does it matter how little you may care what government, corporations, and hackers know about what you do in your home. What matters is that the safeguards protecting others who do care must remain in place.

And forget the argument that people are free to go somewhere else. In our current economy most people in this province who have a job and a mortgage have no choice but to stay where they are and do what BC Hydro dictates. For populated areas, supplied electricity has become more essential to life than supplied water. Urban regulations will not permit alternative sources. And those who could legally go off-the grid can rarely afford the expense. BC Hydro is a government-established monopoly, so there are no competitors to turn to for service provision. Under these circumstances the only protection an individual has are our elected representatives. Except in this case, regardless of party, they have determined that what is good for business is more important than long established individual rights.

Recently, politicians of all description prominently displayed poppies and paid homage to the sacrifices made by previous generations who understood that to maintain a free system over time it is necessary for certain principles to be inviolate. Government must conform to the principle rather than change the principle to accommodate the wishes of whoever happens to be in power. It is why we have Constitutions. Unfortunately many politicians these days don’t seem to think that way. They do not recognize that our jobs are not only to represent our electorate, majority and minority, but also to serve as guardians of the free system. Sadly we seem all too willing to thoughtlessly forfeit our freedom for the latest of fleeting conveniences that our runaway technology may provide.

Boon

Take a trip to Quesnel to the Access centre there. No line ups and very quick.

I renewed my licence back in February and although I was told to take a number, I barely had time to sit down before it was called. The woman who served me was quick, efficient, knowledgeable and pleasant.
Have a great weekend!

Please everyone, have a safe weekend.
Watch out for the one who has your number out there, they could be anywhere.
BTW I never heard any accident stats for the last long weekend, just that one poor lady who died on a skidoo. I hope there were no others to report!

Give more, I don’t ever remember them doing anything with the site at 10th and Victoria, nor the site at 17th and Queensway, but I may be wrong, it’s happened before…lol I remember the old Woodwards Gas Station site been cleaned, took several years. The Econo site on Victoria has never been touched.

But my real purpose of my previous post was to do with the Ed Delorme site on George St., and the gas station site beside it. Are they going to clean them up?

Say Say Say: Bylaw officers?? What a joke. This city doesn’t take bylaw enforcement seriously. You can’t get one after 4:30 pm!

opps how did that link get in there?

http://electroplague.com/2014/04/23/media-refuse-to-publish-mayors-critique-of-smart-meters/

Give more, I remember now what they did at 10th and Victoria. They pulled the old fuel tanks out and fillies the holes in. The oil company that owns the land still doesn’t want to deal with it!

Thank you Gus for posting about water fluoridation. The above link is to The Lancet, one of the most respected medical journals, which now identifies fluoride as a developmental neurotoxicant after epidemiological studies. Six additional neurotoxicants have been added: Manganese, fluoride, chlorpyrifos, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, tetrachloroethylene and the ploybrominated diphenyl ethers.

It states that neuro developmental disabilities, including autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia and other cognitive impairments affect millions of children worldwide and some diagnoses seem to be increasing in frequency.

A global prevention strategy is proposed.

Lancet Neuorology 2014, 13:330-38 published February 15 2014.

In my opinion, the intentional addition of a neurotoxin fluoride fluorosilicic acid(no matter in what concentration) to our Prince George tap water should be stopped today.

The access center best day or even Services Canada is Thursday afternoon. No one is there then. To bad so many cut backs so the access center is just over worked by not enough staff.

Over worked? Holy cow! I’ve never seen a bunch of people moving as slow as some of those people do. It’s like we’re an inconvenience to them. I feel for the 2 or 3 who are actually efficient; they’re getting dragged down by the rest of them.

But yes, you need to pick your time if you don’t want to spend an afternoon there.

Spring cleaning time does anyone know when the big tire drop off is happening and where?

Yup, I’ve had the same experience at the Access Centre when renewing my licence. Absolutely ridiculous how slow people move around there. I have left in frustration on a couple of occasions.

Re: Fluoridation, the Lancet article doesn’t talk about effective levels of fluoridation. Most things in large quantities will kill you. There’s no news there.

Even the Harvard study which is commonly sited, has been exposed as a sham, looked at fluoridation far above the recommended levels.

One only needs to look at hucksters like Kevin Millership to see what kind of a shell game the anti-fluoridation people play with facts and figures.

ICBC claims center? Is that the building near 15th and Ospika?

I think my license expires this summer. Can you go in early to renew?

Has anyone noticed the increasing amount of automated crank telephone calls? We seem to be getting two to three a day, and most times no one is on the other end.
I guess that experiment with registering your telephone number to stop scam calls didn’t work out so good. Land lines are going to be going the way of the dodo bird soon.

not only do we have to avoid pot holes but we have to guess at where the lines might have been on the streets. Have to guess at which lane you are in most of the time.

To Axman: Forgot to mention female neighbour worked steadily since she was 14 yrs. and she worked steadily in a professional job and made more money than husband per year before she turned 60 …..that’s why the “actuarial changes” Harper stated were made based on longer longevity etc….were I feel an opportunity to reduce CPP payments to people who have contributed maximum for minimum return.

JB, predictably: “Most things in large quantities will kill you. There’s no news there.”

The Lancet is out for lunch?

My last comment on the subject at hand:

You are saying large quantity all at once will kill you. You may have heard about another well known fact: Small quantities applied over long periods of time can have a cumulative effect (the human body stores about 50% of ingested fluoride!) and kill you just the same if you are blessed with a long life!

Then, you may suffer from the ailments known as brittle bones, kidney failure, thyroid dysfunction, Alzheimers…

Why did they take lead out of gasoline? Because of the long term effects on people’s health! How about second hand smoke inhaled over a long period of time? Harmless? Give me break, everybody knows about long term harm! Your theory is flawed!

I think a good majority of us are guilty of cell phone use. I have been busted once.

However, I find myself up against a curb talking on the phone as well more often now.

Yes fluoride is good on your teeth but it is a treatment that should be done at the dentist office and when you brush your teeth with fluoridated toothpaste. In those cases you get medical grade human safe fluoride not the garbage they are putting in our water. The argument for mass medication is that those without the means and poor brushing habits will have more cavities. Well those without the means or poor brushing habits get more cavities period. So what have they accomplished? Maybe less frequent cavities but they still get them.

So if for some strange reason the fluoride stays in the PG water then the next step would be to get the City to treat the water with the good stuff, not the industrial waste that they are using now.

Ask your dentist if fluoride is good in your body! Mine says no!

To those who are afraid of radiation. I think your exposure to microwave ovens, cell phones, wifi, cordless phones, airport security equipment, dentist x rays, CT Scans, etc is far greater than any smart meter.

I actually see the city out sweeping but not highways. Whats taking them so long. There usually first. And whats up witht the dust bomb called UNBC. Maybe they cant find a sweeper contractor.

“”Yup, I’ve had the same experience at the Access Centre when renewing my licence. Absolutely ridiculous how slow people move around there. I have left in frustration on a couple of occasions.””

Entitled or what? In order for these taxpayer funded offices to operate efficiently they have to make sure they don’t over staff. Perhaps an appointment system would be better.

Taxpayerteacher, is an oxymoron.

Taxpayers who pay teachers wages also pay teachers taxes. So the more wages and taxes teachers pay, the more we have to be taxed to pay these costs.

Civil servants including teachers should not be required to pay taxes, as it is nothing more that an exercise is paper work. The Government pays them a wage (using tax dollars) and then takes back a portion of that wage in taxes.

@anyone who uses your cellphone while driving!

You phone has an off button and an airplane mode. Before getting in your car turn your little toy off or put it in airplane mode. That way you won’t be tempted to pull the thing out when it goes off while driving. That simple excercise could save you from crashing, save you from killing yourself or someone else. When you get to your destination turn it back on!

So Gus ol boy I posted a piece from WUWT last week and you called the site funny but did not elaborate, just a hit and run. Why don’t you go over there and just tell them how funny they are. Wait a minute I have to get my popcorn out.

You do realize it was voted the best science blog on the net three years running.

——–

Interesting. Did they both retire at the same age? ie, were they both 60? The husband at 65 and the wife sooner?

Hopefully they were able to squirrel enough away (RSP’s, savings, etc.) to be comfortable.

Axman–I agree with you–work for the access center–middle name has to be SLOTH! Is there something that moves slower, in the world?

Taxinapothole- Next to the old Ranch motel, was a drive in restaurant, then a gas station. And I’ve been in the area since 1959.

On the CPP they did increase the reduction for collecting early, so if they went at 60, he would definitely have more pension than her, because it use to be .5% reduction per month, now it’s .6% reduction per month of retirement before 65. But fact is, CPP is just a big ponzi scheme anyway.

The current workers are shoveling in the cash, and the retired workers are spending it, and the surplus is being invested in stuff that may or may not exist in the distant future.

If you are 30 now, you have 35 years to go. In 35 years, in order for you to collect CPP, this is what you need. You need enough people working, and who have resources to work with, to have enough resources left over to share with you, and to be willing to share those resources. So if when you turn 65, if half the population is over, and half under, likely you’ll just have to work, so enjoy your life as you live it, because it’s unlikely there’ll be a retirement for you, like the seniors of today are able to have.

So you sock away billions into the CPP, but if in 35 years Canada is depleted of all it’s minerals and energy resources, then all that cash will be gone, because at the end of the day, we trade stuff with other countries for stuff, cash means nothing if you have nothing to back it up with, unless you’re the USA.

Looks like Harper lost his Supreme Court case regarding Senate reform.

So we have a Prime Minister and advisors who do not even understand the laws governing the country.

A big shame. Too many governments at various levels seem to be run by amateurs these days.

Any site that is named after an SNL skit serial has to be funny.

Who did the voting? Those who use the site … LOL … funnier still …. LOL

Boon, Just to let you know one of the BEST WORKERS the B.C. Access had just passed away unexpectedly to cancer March 17th. Her name was Rose age 44. So give them some respect and be patient.

————-

What case? All he did was ask the supreme court for advice before proceeding. If our laws were cut and dry there would be no need for our court system.

Heres my take on the access center, for what its worth:
I cannot imagine a job where you have to deal with the likes of Joe Q public on a government issue. Short of an excited 16 year old getting their learners, almost every person in there either has a beef or is spending money they dont want to. The only incentive to serve more people in a day is pride in your work and making the customer happy. Since that customer is most likely going to be a complete A-Hole anyway, why would you hurry?
You couldnt pay me enough to work in those conditions.
On a related note, I have been to the Access center about six times in the last two years for various reasons and my longest wait has been about 15 minutes. But then again, I dont go when the masses go.

Hey Gus that all you got, you are funny. So you cannot refute and are a denier of climate change, I mean real climate change not the mann causing warming scam morph.

Jada do you deal with a bank, governments, have a store customer card, you are on the internet of course, all these track you. How about licence plate readers tracking your location. Smile for the camera when crossing the Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges. Your whole life is tracked from the moment of birth and even after death looking for taxes due.

I am not defending Hydro just pointing out you have no privacy in life and a smart meter is not going to make any difference to the size of the data stream already on you.

so JB what would be the right dose of fluoride for me? and how would I measure that? I don’t know how much I am getting? I do know that they say it prevents cavities but I had 2 of them so am I doing something wrong?

effective levels? whats that?

Yes, I agree with you, gus. The Northern Health does not look at both sides of this, and that is not fair to the citizens of Prince George. People should know what they are putting into their bodies and their childrens bodies!

So after nine years of harper ,harping on and on about senate reform/abolishment the only one that has done anything proactive with the senate has been Justin Trudeau . This is what happens when we are lead by an under educated person that refuses to listen to science , law , environmentalists , communities or the 61% of people that did not vote for him or his ilk . What a buffoon .

Flouride is good for teeth so put it on your teeth, but it IS NOT good for your bodies…I know a bit about this because I am in nursing.

Taxpayingteacher I don’t understand how some cannot understand that like everyone , you also pay taxes . You pay taxes on all the things you consume . You pay property taxes , income taxes etc. and on and on. The only thing I can fault you people for is that you were not able to properly tutor christy enough for her to get through post secondary without flunking out . Third time the charm ? Not for her . It seems every contract time she’s looking for revenge .

hey jayda, i reposted the mayor’s letter here http://forums.castanet.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=56525

thanks for the great info.

Don’t understand these comments about the access center, always cheerful, competent staff to address my needs, very little wait time, and yes they probably are short staffed just like a few offices around the province. Somebody being mindful of FTE’s no doubt and keeping costs down, which is fine for this taxpayer.

ntkr13, I fully aware there was a restaurant/drive inn right beside the Ranch Motel. That was back in the day when the Ranch Motel was a decent place to stay. The restaurant’s name was The Rainbow Drive Inn. I was born in Prince George, close to 62 years ago, so your point was?

My point is, there has been a vacant, unsightly piece of land between the Ranch Motel and the Connaught Inn. Part of it was a service station, beginning with Home Oil, and later The Econo. When I got my first car I got gas at The Home Oil for 30 cents a GALLON. Anyway, back to my point, make the owners of the property with dirty dirt, clean it up, and bulldoze the Ranch Motel. Now we have a nice piece of property that could be the home for a number of nice buildings, including a good size hotel!

Taxi

Anyone besides Taxi recall Cottonwood Island (aka The Cache) and the 2-300 population that lived there, Lambs sawmill, the beach on the river. The original school house is being used for storage by a company down there and I believe one original house still standing. Interesting place to grow up.

i had to renew my license at the access centre in january. I took my number, waited for about 10 minutes, and spoke with a very polite young woman. in no more than 4 minutes, she had renewed my DL, requestd a new CareCard and taken a new picture. So sorry some of you had to wait! Oh gosh, must be a sign of lazy civil servants, right? any occasion to slag a public employee.

Why are you leaving me out Griz. I know a poster on this site that lived there as a kid. Our family use to go down there and visit them frequently from what I can remember. Good Old Days, let me tell you :-)

Taxi

Well, I guess that whole senate reform part of the Cons election platform has been kicked in the teeth. Do they have any major part of their platform left that hasn’t or won’t be squashed by the courts? This has got to be getting embarrassing for the ole Reformers.

And the trailer court at the west side of the bridge that flooded every year! The store across the tracks from the trailer court and the long waits at both ends for the train when coming to town!

Maybe they can focus full time on ranting and raving about Keystone, all the while believing that their opinion actually matters to anyone in the White House, LOL.

stopped at access centre yesterday 10.30 am no place to sit. walked out, will try again another day.

A few points of interest on the Fluoride debate:

– It is important to note that while fluoride contributes to the remineralisation process in the enamel of the tooth surface this is not dependent on fluoride, and that fluoride’s anticaries effect is critically dependent on calcium and magnesium content of teeth enamel. So if adding fluoride to the water, then should we also be adding magnesium and calcium to the water as well? Of course not.

– For people with low magnesium and calcium in their daily diets (the target market for the supporters of fluoride in water) the fluoride actually increases their risk to anticaries and tooth decay.

– Fluoride is a carcinogenic pollutant and there is no known disease caused by fluoride deficiency.

– Drinking fluoride in public water makes it impossible to administer a proper dose, causing a rise in toxic dental fluorosis. Since the 1980’s cases of dental fluorosis have skyrocketed.

– Fluoride is toxic for children. In 1991, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in the USA measured fluoride levels and found that where water is fluoridated between 0.7 and 1.2 ppm overall fluoride, total fluoride intake for adults was between 1.58 and 6.6 mg per day while for children it was between 0.9 and 3.6 mg per day and that there was at least a sixfold variation just from water consumption habits alone. The inability to control individual dose renders the notion of an “optimum concentration” obsolete.

– In the USA, a study in Iowa found that 90% of 3-month-olds consumed over their recommended upper limits, with some babies ingesting over 6 mg of fluoride daily, above what the Environmental Protection Agency and the WHO say is safe to avoid crippling skeletal fluorosis.

– In a meta-analysis of 27 mostly China-based studies on fluoride and neurotoxicity, researchers from Harvard School of Public Health and China Medical University in Shenyang found strong indications that fluoride may adversely affect cognitive development in children.

– In a 2005 study, it was found that 47% of children living in a New Delhi neighbourhood with average water fluoride level of 4.37 ppm have evidence of clinical hypothyroidism attributable to fluoride.

– Fluoride is a known enzyme disruptor. For example, fluoride’s anticaries effect is derived in part from its ability to derange the enzymes of cariogenic bacteria. Our human bodies are but a large floral biosphere of good and bad enzymes in which fluoride disrupts that natural cycle when ingested, as opposed to topical applications.

– Chronic fluoride ingestion is a possible cause of uterine cancer and bladder cancer.

– It is now widely accepted that fluoride is not an essential element for human physiology.

– 2011 European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks concluded that fluoride is not essential for human growth and development.

– Not a single country in the world defines water fluoridation as a medicine, as that would require far more burden of evidence as to its safety.

– The enzyme poison fluoride may kill bacteria on the teeth, but it is not suitable for ingestion at uncontrolled levels.

– Mass water fluoridation is medication of an enzyme poison without consent.

Hey Jayda, thanks for the mayors letter. He hits it on the mark. Its about a persons freedoms and rights as a citizen under the constitution. Everything else ignores this basic fact.

As exampled by Harpers Supreme Court slap downs our politicians today are all to happy to ignore the constitution when it comes to partisan expediencies.

Taxi, I recall those visits, I was the younger one.Always got a chuckle out of your Dad’s accent.
And NoWay, that was Ginters trailer court at one time, met the retired manager down south.

yep, I remember that trailer court in the cache. As kid driving into town, we always laughed at the trailer park being flooded out. always commenting why anyone would want to stay in that bug infested swamp water eddy. What parent would want to raise their kids in a trailer park like that….. Than I married one of them.

Thanks Atalos…..nice to get a compliment. Please don’t blame me either for the way Christy Clark dresses……not my fault she appeared in the Legislature with her boobs hanging out of her shirt!!!

Taxpayerteacher I don’t blame you for her dressing . Could you please explain to the NDP that they need a leader with a back ground in science and or mathematics . We need leaders that are up to speed today and not stuck in the past . The world is changing every day at an excelerating pace . These hicks we have in power ,negotiating on our behalf are not up to dealing with the caliber of leaders like Obama , Merkel etc. they must just laugh when they see people like christy or Steve show up .

Taxi: that was us! Our Dads worked together at Baldy Hughes.

How shallow of you to judge someone based on what they choose to wear.

Kenney noted that temporary foreign workers make up only two per cent of the 1.1 million people employed in Canadian restaurants.

ONLY?? One question, do these companies still pay EI and CPP on the wages paid to the TFW??

Cheers Griz, you are busted…lol :-)

“All he did was ask the supreme court for advice before proceeding”

Taking up valuable supreme court time to get an opinion? He can only do that because he is the prime minister. He should have used his best constitutional lawyer.

That is what anyone else would have been told.

Perhaps this was the advice given to him by his best constitutional lawyer?

Had he gone ahead an pushed for reform only to be denied by the court at a later date we’d still be complaining. It’s pretty much a no win situation.

No, Harper did the right thing, The Judge is already on the payroll. The lawyer would have spent 20 hrs wrote a report and sent in a bill for $100,000.00

You can’t say, “serving the public sucks” until you get home and take your shoes off.

I would like to ask Kenney why all the TFW , seem to be coming from the Philippines and mostly women . How about finding some jobs for some men from Italy I am sure they would not mind working at Tim Hortons to get into Canada. Why are they focused on one Country??

hey jayda, i reposted the mayor’s letter here http://forums.castanet.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=56525

thanks for the great info.

thank you! I’m not looking for a fight, but rather education. A lot of folks don’t know about the consequences of smart meters. Its one thing to be tracked via credit card etc, but when your tracked in your own home, is another. I’m really surprised most folks are ok with this?

Taxi, when you come back, I’ll try and dig up an old air raid siren and crank her up for yuh, just for old times sake.

“I would like to ask Kenney why all the TFW , seem to be coming from the Philippines and mostly women”

Maybe you are not old enough to have seen nurses come here from the Phillipines because we diod not have enough, perhaps because many of the nurses we educated went to the US to get much higher paying positions.

There is not only free trade in goods, but also service. While some services can be conducted over the phone or internet from far away lands, others require that personal touch, so the people actually have to move along with the service they are able to provide.

I’m still waiting for someone to show me peer reviewed scientific studies that show that fluoridtion of water *at approved levels* causes any harm.

Until then, I will continue to take the word of the vast majority of health and dental professionals, Health Canada, the World Health Organization, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (just to name a few).

hey jayda, i, like the mayor, do believe the concept that fought for freedoms that are disappearing one omnibus bill, one order in council, or one of any number of mechanisms at a time in such rapid succession in the last decade should not, or at least not without public discussion at least.

the board i reposted to regards smart meter talk to a ‘conspiracy theory’ and forces users to register for the site, ask to join a special group and then finally once accepted are you able view posts on the subject.

very oppressive environment. and they actually call it a ‘public’ forum.

Re: Smart Meters… people do have a choice when it comes to smart meters. Refuse one, and pay extra to have your analog meter read. Simple.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I’ll bet that his legal experts thought that a sitting government could simply rewrite the constitution based on a whim.

Do you think it’s simply possible that when we elect “ordinary people” we elect people that don’t have the capacity to understand extraordinary things?

JB …. are you old enough to remember when doctors believed that smoking was good for people because it relaxed them?

Actually, it was around the same time that they also thought that ingesting fluoride was a great way to get rid of dental carries ….. mid 1940s …

Some like to continue to believe those myths and never look at new evidence ….

I think one of the terms for such people is luddites ..

I said “his” best; not “the” best constitutional lawyer. :)

Did you realize when they will be putting meters into houses to measure the amount of water people use, they will also know when you are using the water?

And they will be doing that with the new gas meters as well.

Imagine the amount of information they will be able to gather about your household habits when they combine water, gas and hydro time and amount data and couple that with who sends you mail, what category of goods and services you buy with your credit card(s) and debit card(s) and where you activate your skytrain tickets …. LOL.

ooooops … forgot about combining that with the red light cameras which will be adding the location of you vehicle as you travel with it across town and the province and the country … and where you got parking tickets …

The store across from the flooded trailer park in the Cache was called “Half wit Harry’s and crazy Henry’s” or something like that.

Remember goat island. Goats there at one time during the summers years ago.

Try and picture yourself doing everything in your life trying to get off the “grid”, let alone surviving off it. Good luck.

Ha! Missed the subtlety there ;)

Gus, looking at the latest findings can be time consuming and often disturbing to those who have a certain mindset or agenda, especially if it involves scientific findings and warnings endorsed by over 3,000 scientists, physicians, dentists, researchers and dozens of Nobel Laureates.

Is living off the grid hard? Maybe for those who would rather flick a switch than create their own power. Off grid is not a “new thing”, it was and will continue to be a way of life for many people, me included. And off grid, means so much more than just using your own generated power.

what was the name of the store at the end of first Ave ? crazy something if I remember correct ,,, probably not, maybe they where just called crazy but it was a days bike ride there.Tthere where two of them that ran the store. There is also the Esso old gas station at Spruceland Save On that had been there since I was a wee one and collected NHL stickers for my book, if I had it now it would be worth some money. Annie you have to be patient , the lines are painted sometimes after Sept just before the snow flies. Axeman, not going to get into it but Senators vote on their own demise if they should stay or not if it came down to it ,,, that is F@#ked up and funny (sic).Interceptor , my biggest problem with the access center is that I could have got my whole familys picture for 49 .99 at Walmart instead of just me for 80 something. Most of all the city or govt should be immediately on the owners of these old gas station lots and get them cleaned up NOW ,,lets see who has the power that takes this ball and runs with it here in PG. cheers and a good fun weekend to all.

Half wit harry and crazy henry , Ha Ha thanks Resident thanks, you had posted before I had , made me smile

Gus; You missed the point, anyone can work at Timmys ,what I am saying is bring in some guys how about England, Italy, France, Why focus on one country and mainly women. Jobs for Canadians first.

Could be the furniture store called Crazy Willys. Not sure who the owners were.:)

Thank you to Eagleone. I knew most of that, but a lot of people don’t. Thanks for posting it.

Not a furniture store Palopu, we spent the other half of the day riding are bikes home with pockets full of candy for 25 cents:)

I do wonder why, we are the ONLY large city that still using flouride. Somethings wrong with this picture, don’t you think?

Tabor Blvd, local drag strip seems to be open for operation again …

and yes there are numerous rectums attending… I hope someone sits outside your home at night and revs up their un-mufflered vehicles…

Now why would people from across the pond want to come here for a minimum wage job?

There is nothing wrong with fluoride in our water, just ask JB and his absolutely true WHO and health Canada studies and reports. Fluoride is fine. People make profit from fluoride why would you want to fool with someones livelyhood?

To get to Canada. You have not heard yet ???? ,,,One of the best places on earth, for a very limited time only.

well at least some folks here understand the the ramifications of smart meters. That link posted about myths….well obviously some haven’t done serious research, if you believe that link.

It would have been nice if some folks actually read the mayors words.

Jayda might do you well to read the posts.

Gus, I have to say that I’m disappointed in you. It seems that the fear mongers have got you brainwashed as well. And using the same tired old rhetoric no less! I kind of figured you of all people would see through that. Oh well.

No peer reviewed scientific links yet? I didn’t think so.

The fluoride issue is a whole lot of to do, about nothing.

Cant wait for the election so that this issue can be voted up or down.

Never seen so many whisky drinking, canned good eaters, pop guzzlers, marijuana smokers, ice cream lickers, and gasoline smellers, complain so much about so little.

Exactly, Palopu. However, I don’t have much faith in PG voters. They’ll probably listen to the rhetoric from the very vocal anti-fluoride crusaders and vote it out.

It’s not about who’s right. It’s about who is the loudest.

Not texting or posting while I’m driving, but it was a good chuckle. Not doing much. Had a good old heart attack a year ago, so had to get two stents put in. Now I’m waiting for major back surgery in June, and hopefully that will get my legs working again. Other than that friends, life is grand! Keep smiling, my neurosurgeon will “Make It Right”

Taxi

Johnny Belt:
As you tend to cite Health Canada’s support of water fluoridation seeming to think they have everyone’s best interest at the forefront – watch the 16X9 episode that aired on April 5, “Pesticide Peril”. It’s about Syngenta (the largest chemical company in the world) and the pesticide atrazine, an endocrine disruptor that has been banned in Europe for more than 10 years. Canadian law allows almost double the amount of atrazine in drinking water than the US.
Pesticide lobbyist admits “if you destroy the reputation of the scientist then you’ve destroyed the science…at least in the public’s mind”

Scare tactics trying to protect their interests!

Thalidomide was once thought to be an amazing wonder drug for women suffering from morning sickness. All kinds of scientists backed it as a wonder drug. Eventually they realized differently.

Sorry Atalos….I am not an NDP’er.

Prince George wrote: “Gus, looking at the latest findings can be time consuming and often disturbing to those who have a certain mindset or agenda”

I think it is laziness and lack of money on the part of large organizations. There are many more urgent projects than dental carries for large international and national organizations which disrupt the lives of people more than fluoride may.

I think that anyone who is in the health field, especially public health, needs to be current. It is evident to me that the USA, Canada, Australia and the UK are not and are being pushed by the population more than their understanding of the ethical issue of “informed consent”.

The expedient thing to do is to appear to continue to help the underprivileged, which was the original ethical mindset, rather than to accept the fact that they have a duty to remain current.

It is so easy to simply wipe their hands of that responsibility and increasingly move to the side of the spectrum which promotes increasing ignorance rather than increasing knowledge. It takes no money to do that.

It takes money to help and encourage new research. No one has any of that.

Instead of paying less than $100,000 per year to fluoridate, the taxpayers should pay 3 times as much so that $200,000 can go to research to verify whether the money is well spent. The true cost of providing fluoridated water is not understood.

Any business knows that one cannot simply pay for the hard operating costs, but one must also pay for maintaining currency in the processes used in the business, including research of how to improve. Without that re-investment a business will eventually lose market share.

A monopoly, of course, has no such worry.

Dragon, you and others should read up on the measles outbreak in the US. All but eradicated more than 20 years ago.

If you do not get immunized can I sue you if you get my kids sick to the point of death or irreparable injury? Or if my child or someone else’s dies because you opt out can you be tried for murder? This is being debated heavily in the US right now and spillover will happen in Canada.

It is up to government to decide the good of all residents and citizens not just certain individuals. If the benefits outweigh the ‘risks’ – as with immunization and fluoride – who are you to decide the fate of those within the city?

@gus: Ah, I see. Most of the world’s health and dental professionals and organizations are ‘lazy’. Anyone who sees it differently is ‘ignorant’.

Lame.

JB wrote: “No peer reviewed scientific links yet? I didn’t think so.”

Just like to remind you that no one has actually cited peer reviewed research links on either side. All that has been linked are position statements from governing bodies, especially those representing dental professionals as well as public health professionals.

Only the last has any say, but they really do not take responsibility for adding the suggested chemicals in the water. Those who actually put the chemicals into the water are the municipalities and in some cases the states.

The water is actually controlled for potability by the various authorities over water which is not public health. If it were, fluoride would be considered a drug, as the sodium fluoride is which is used in such topical applications as toothpaste.

The quotation “Fluoridation is by far the single most cost-effective way to prevent tooth decay on a large scale,” comes from a time when it was thought to be that, and it may very well have been. The first time that quotation was used was in a study which is about 40 years old. The mindset has not changed in some organizations.

Read the link below. What is actually happening is political, not scientists arguing back and forth.

It is all about the ethics of putting “stuff” in the water that may help some and may be detrimental to others. It is all about not really knowing and what do prudent people do when they do not know and start discovering that evidence is gathering towards a more cautious approach.

In general, we hear from dentists and researcher dealing with a very small part of the human body, not toxicologists, and other medical specialists of body systems which are also affected the same way as teeth are, but not in a positive fashion.

Those little fluoride “thingies” do not just migrate to the teeth, they end up in kidneys, for instance, and add to the stress of those organs trying to filter them out, as an example.

Now they are looking at thyroid function, bones, brain tissue, etc.

Since fluoride did not have to meet FDA approval, insufficient studies were done in the first place. We are finally starting to catch up. It was not on the priority list.

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2013/01/29/windsor_to_stop_adding_fluoride_to_water.html

Brian Skakun for Mayor….time for PG to have their own asphalt plant and paving crew instead of paying 30% more than Kamloops and getting substandard work done. I know it will mean more unionized city workers but oh well, they will live here and put their pay checks back into our economy.

JB … you have contributed nothing to this as usual … I would say you are sitting on your behind the same as those I am accusing of doing the same

It is you who is the lame one.

Why I Am Now Officially Opposed to Adding
Fluoride to Drinking Water

Dr. Hardy Limeback, BSc, PhD, DDS

Associate Professor and Head, Preventive Dentistry, University of Toronto

I was one of the 12 scientists who served on the US National Academy of Sciences panel that issued the 2006 report, “Fluoride in Drinking Water: A Scientific Review of the EPA’s Standards.”

I would like to outline my arguments that fluoridation is ineffective and a harmful public health policy.

The studies that water fluoridation works are over 25 years old and were carried out before the widespread use of fluoridated toothpaste. There are numerous modern studies to show that there no longer is a difference in dental decay rates between fluoridated and non-fluoridated areas, a recent one in Australia (Armfield & Spencer, 2004 Community Dental Oral Epidemiology. 32:283-96).

http://loveforlife.com.au/node/4235

Be careful what you ask for JB … Like a good lawyer, when you ask a question of the witness, you should know the answer before it is given for the record …

From the above source:

Recent water fluoridation cessation studies show that dental fluorosis (a mottling of the enamel caused by fluoride) declines but there is no corresponding increase in dental decay (e.g. Maupome et al 2001, Community Dental Oral Epidemiology 29:37-47).

Using hydrofluorosilicic acid instead of industrial grade sodium fluoride has an added risk of increasing lead accumulation in children (Masters et al 2000, Neurotoxicology. 21(6): 1091- 1099), probably from the lead found in the pipes of old houses.

This could not be ruled out by the CDC in their recent study (Macek et al 2006, Environmental Health Perspectives 114:130-134)

Cancer: Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) has recently been identified as a risk in young boys in a recently published Harvard study (Bassin, Cancer Causes and Control, 2006).

The author of this study, Dr. Elise Bassin, acknowledges that perhaps it is the use of untested and contaminated fluorosilicates that caused the over 500% increase risk of bone cancer in young boys.

The U of T’s recently published study on fluoride in bone from fluoridation (Chachra et al, J Dent Res 89(11):1219-1223, 2010) shows a negative trend in changes that have occurred in the bone of Torontonians who have lived only a portion of their lives in fluoridated Toronto.

Have a great night ….
