Area RCMP Send Two Fugitives Back To Alberta
Quesnel, BC – RCMP in Quesnel and Clearwater are being credited with the province's 66th and 67th 'returns', under the BC Fugitive Return Program.
Funded by the Civil Forfeiture Office and BC Sheriff Services, the RCMP and municipal police services have been working since 2012 to hold individuals living in BC with out-of-province warrants accountable for their actions.
To that end, officers in Quesnel arrested Ryan Allan Danchuk earlier this month. He was returned to Alberta on April 15th. Danchuk was wanted for assault by the Edmonton Police Service, in addition to outstanding warrants in Drayton Valley and Fort Saskatchewan for failing to comply and being unlawfully at large.
Robert Handy was also returned to Alberta on April 15th. Handy was arrested by RCMP in Clearwater on outstanding warrants issued by Red Deer RCMP that included possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Right on! but I wonder why this was only started in 2012?
I wonder how many fugitives are being returned to BC from Alberta and other Provinces. Having this info would determine if there are in fact any savings in the program.
If you recall quite a while ago our illustrious Premier Ujjal Dosange wondered aloud about the merits of sending these “fugitives” wanted on outstanding warrants back east on a bus. I then queried in a letter to the editor if the bus company would inform potential ride along customers in the same bus there would be alleged criminals as seat mates. I said I would take the following bus if so. I then asked if there would be a police officer to accompany these allege “perps” so they didn’t get off the bus in Elbow, Sask. on their way to Ontario. My queries fell on deaf ears as per norm. Politics is easy.
Do reporters still learn sentence composition in journalism school?
metalman.
So they go to court get a fine, maybe a couple days, and are back. If we are sending them back it should be on substantial offences or we’ve just wasted money. Btw anyone know how much civil forfeiture brings in each year?
I do believe that if they are in custody, they are ‘escorted’ back by a sheriff or two and they are usually flown.
These represent the 67th accused to be removed from B.C. Usually these folks are escaping jail time due to their records.
Most escorts are done by sheriffs, sometimes police from the originating agency come and get them.
Harb, it’s usually done in sheriff vehicle to Alberta, or by plane with a couple sheriffs, you have no worries.
Gitter, the civil forfeiture branch should be listed on the B.C. gov. website, should have some info for you.
The savings I doubt can be quantified since when these criminals are removed from our jurisdiction, their criminal activity locally stops. How to put a cost saving on crimes not committed?
