The above would be terrorism. The solution for this generation is simple and we are already half way there.

Make the Senate a non partisan body with no party affiliations, and then rather than have Senators appointed by the PMO, have them elected at large in some capacity at the provincial level. This would strengthen the Senate legitimacy as well as its effectiveness as an independent branch of government. None of that would require any constitutional crisis.

Harper doesn’t want Senate reform now that he is the one picking senators. His focus will be on Senate reforms that are unattainable, so as to prolong real reform and extend his personal power base.

On the bright side: Harper sure knows how to pick them!
