Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Farmers Market’s outdoor season kicked off Saturday outside the courthouse and, while many of the regular vendors chose not to brave the elements, those on hand are confident it will be a good season.
Some stalls, such as Terry’s Fresh Hot Bannock, are quite familiar. Operator Terry Eastman says this is her 11th season at the outdoor market and she’s looking forward to it. However, she also pointed out that she has “an assistant” (pictured with Terry above) learning the ropes to take over the operation when Terry decides she’s had enough.
And, along with the veterans, visitors will meet vendors new to the outdoor market, including Maureen Schulting selling a host of products from her family’s Garrendenny Farms cattle ranch, just south of Prince George. Maureen says after operating at the Farmer’s Market at UNBC she decided to move things to the outdoor market at the courthouse to give that a try.
Maureen, pictured above with her daughter Matty, (who was on the helping team with Georgina, Henry and Willy) says she’ll be selling beef, jams, jellies, eggs and other assorted products from the farm. She says her family’s cattle ranching began ten years ago with highland cattle and then moving to angus and angus cross. The ranch prides itself on raising naturally-fed beef and has gathered a popular following in the area.
