Mayor Green Starting To Look Like Another Run For Mayor

Monday, May 5, 2014 @ 3:45 AM

If you have been "Mayor" watching lately you might get the feeling that  Shari Green is priming the pump for another run at the mayor's job in the upcoming civic election.

It seems she  has become more visible with the public through the media (not this one of course ) over  the past several weeks, a move that usually indicates  the party in question is looking to have the public jump on board.

250News has not had the benefit of talking with or interviewing the Mayor since back when  we broke the story that she had hired herself an executive assistant (without posting the  opening) not long after canning a  number of  staff at City Hall.  She also, for some reason, hadn't at that point, gotten over the fact that she had to bow out of voting  in the Haldi Road issue following an interview  I  had with her. So I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for her to come calling at this point and the question in my mind would be , where have you been over the past two and half years?

So you might suggest, well is there any reason why she would want to become friendly with 250? That would be a valid question, and my reply would be, our job is to report on the news and events of the day, not take a photo op as a means of gauging what a mayor has been doing on our behalf. We would have been happy to have reported on "all" of the decisions and action she has taken and her reason for doing it, however  250News wasn't the one  to decide to cease communication with the Mayor,  that was her decision.

So back to the present.

Green stuck her foot in the water to test the temperature for a possible run at the federal conservative riding , held by Dick Harris. Unless there has been a 100% reversal, that door never opened for her, and I could have saved her the trip .

Given that both Mike Morris, and Shirley Bond  not only have a number of years left in their mandate, but also enjoy a solid position, count that one out of the mix as well.

So that leaves the Mayor's chair which pays around a 100K, and has some stature about it. Problem this go round is that the two positive  factors in her campaign  last time around, the  promised 10%  savings in every department and a war chest  that would have made even Barrack Obama blush, just aren't there this time.   Marshall Smith, who was an important  supporter of hers in the last election, has no political pull in this community.

The people of Haldi Road, the Pine Valley  Golf Course people, the  Rec Hockey  folks, the  offstreet parking  stall  renters and  secondary suite owners  are  among  those  who have been biding their time waiting for the next election .

As the clock ticks away the time that the Mayor has in office, and unless I have read the general public wrong , any amount of photo ops will not change their minds.

“As the clock ticks away the time that the Mayor has in office, and unless I have read the general public wrong , any amount of photo ops will not change their minds.”

Looking back at the last provincial election and I’m not buying this. I’m not certain the 10 or so posters who squawk about her here are representative of the general public.

Perhaps someone should poll business owners and taxi drivers to get the ‘pulse of this town’.
That may reflect more, the true sentiment of people here.

I for one would be happy to see her take a hike and not on the cutbanks but right out of City Hall .

Looks like the feelings are very shared amongst many. Let’s hope someone with something resting on their shoulders other than a hat runs in the mayoral. After paying attention to city hall meetings, there is only one or two individuals sitting on council at this moment that I would even think of voting for. Let’s hope Cameron Stoltz does not. He can’t even pay his own taxes let alone run a city.

There is no doubt that Mayor Green has lost a lot of support since being elected. She did not win by a big margin against Rodgers, so depending on who runs against her, and the vote split I would say her chances are slim.

She certainly hasn’t done anything (in my humble opinion) to garner any new support, but has certainly done a few thing to lose support.

I will do my talking with the ballot box come election time.
Let’s just say that green needs to go and leave it at that.

everyone I talk to says the same thing….SHE HAS TO GO along with the majority of the rest of them……

I am certainly no Green fan, but I wonder how many of the loudest squawkers actually vote on election day? My guess is very few.

I voted for Green in the last election but never again! She is the highest maintenance mayor we have ever had. What is the size of our debt load now? I don’t want to here anymore of here empty promises again.
She has treated the pedestrians of the heavy snow Hart area very badly and we will not forget.
Lynn Hall for mayor!

IF she goes, we get a new mayor and who knows how bad that can be. We need someone to run who isn’t so special interest

Honestjoe: “Lyn Hall for mayor!”

That’s the problem. Even if Lyn were to announce that he was running, I don’t know if he would do such a great job. He has been underwhelming as a councillor. It pains me to say that, because I too once thought that he would make a good mayor.

Honestjoe: “Lyn Hall for mayor!”

Be careful what you wish for…….

Last election I voted against Adrian Dix, not for Christy Clark. Green could very well win again, if the option presented is unpalatable. Or, if too many others run for mayor, splitting the vote. She’s done good, for some people, and with our first past the post system, she could win with as little as 21% of the vote, if there’s 5 candidates for mayor.

The way the Chamber of Commerce runs all candidates meetings it might take more than one minute for Chief Green to answer all her critics. It might be a bit harder to pull another $81 thousand dinars out of a hat to run next time. IMO.

Lynn Hall for mayor!

——–

That’s too funny. Can you picture a town with a mayor who’s too afraid to say anything?

The whole lot is going to run again, apparently. If we vote them in again we will get exactly what we deserve. What a precious thing voter amnesia is – priceless!

Lynn Hall had more votes than any other Councilor in the last election,. He got 9529, next was Skakun with 9040. The Mayor got 6969, Rogers 5332.

I think it would be fair to say that Lynn Hall has a lot of support in the community.

We don’t judge a person by what they say, you judge them by their actions. If you look at the last major votes at City Hall you would see that Lynn Hall, along with Everitt, Skakun, Frizell, Krause, and sometimes Kohler, actually controlled the vote and were able to stop the Downtown parking fiasco, the sale of Pine Valley Golf Course, and the licensing of rental houses and suites.

Most of the misery that comes out of City Hall (in my opinion) was dreamed up by Stoltz, the Mayor, and Wilbur, along with the new City Manager. These are the people that should go, however I believe the others should stay, especially the newer ones as they now have some experience.

Throwing everyone out will just cause more problems.

“I am certainly no Green fan, but I wonder how many of the loudest squawkers actually vote on election day? My guess is very few.” .. and it is JUST a guess. Why are you constantly trying to belittle other peoples opinion by calling them squawkers or whiners or fear mongers. And then you will retort by saying “yep, I guess you can’t handle the fact I have a different opinion than some people, yep yep”, but in all reality you don’t very often have an opinion on anything, just a rebuttal of little substance most times. As for green, I hope she runs so she gets put in her place and the people of this town show her exactly what they think of her incompetence.

First get rid of the City manager as SHE uis at the root of 90% of the misery coming outta city hall. Green for mayor AGAIN at this stage is a complete joke!!

I think Frizzel has the least amount of baggage of current councilors. In a wide open race he might have a chance. Skakun has the biggest amount of core supporters, so he might do well in a mayoral race as well. I can’t see Lyn Hall getting elected mayor after his silence the last three years.

I agree that Green should run if for no other reason than to be put in her place for the self serving job she has done. Worst case scenario is she runs for council instead and gets re-elected.

In any event if we don’t have any serious options than I would consider the humiliation of putting my hat in the ring as a politician. I talk to a lot of people and the vast majority do not feel represented, so I think I can provide an option they could vote for.

eagleone

Will your name appear on the ballot as “eagleone” along with all the baggage that would come with that?

I think that it was made clear that anyone shilling for votes on this site would do so under their real name as ” I think I can provide an option they could vote for. ” does not sound like a fence sitter.

Lets keep in mind that this time around they are in for four years. We need to ensure that we get the best available.

Everitt, Hall, and Koehler are the newbies on Council. Frizell in his second term. Skakun and Krause have been around for a long while. Green, Stoltz, and Wilbur somewhere in the middle.

This City needs a Mayor and Council that can deal with all the different groups within the City, and hopefully strive to be fair and above board on all issues. That’s not asking for a hell of a lot.

A Council made up with Hall as the Mayor, Skakun, Everitt, Krause, Frizzell, and Koehler as councilors would be hard pressed to do the City any harm.

Elect 4 new Councilors, and **bang** you are on your way to good Government and a quiet, and hopefully less expensive four years.

To elect Green, or Stoltz, would in effect be rewarding bad behavior.

I love PG and know it could be something so much more than it is now and while not all of the issues can be blamed on the current mayor, some of them can and in my opinion, have put a black eye on the city. I hope the next mayor will put the city and its residents first this time.

Of course she will run again. Why get off the gravel train. She makes close to $120,000 as one of the highest paid mayors in BC and one third of that is tax free.

Add on another $20,000 she makes as a regional district director and add in what ever she gets paid for being on the municipal finance corporation and she has to be pulling in close to $160 thousand.

Then remember at close to $20,000 she has by far and away the highest travel expenses compared to any other mayor in BC. It would be higher too if she wasn’t so good at getting IPG to cover and then bury her expenses so nobody knows exactly what her last junket to Asia actually cost.

Anyway you look at it, she loves to spend our hard earned tax dollars and is laughing all the way to the bank.

Yes she will run again and you can bet Marshall Smith will return and use his bag of political tricks to try and hoodwink us again.

I would be very pleased if Green was railroaded out of town on a gravel train, versus staying here on the gravy train..
