Search On For Worst Roads in BC

Monday, May 5, 2014 @ 4:03 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Once again, the BC Automobile Association has launched the search for the worst roads in B.C.

Ospika Boulevard  in Prince George was named the worst road in the province in 2011,   then in 2012, four P.G. Roads made the top ten list,  with Domano Boulevard  coming in second,  Tabor in third spot, Massey Drive in  6th and 15th Avenue in 7th position.

Last year, the City  was spared the embarrassment, as no P.G.  roads made the top ten.

But, until  May 26th,  you can vote  for the road which  you think is the worst in the community.   You are invited to  pinoint the stretch of roadway you’re concerned about and  specify the issue  that concerns you.

The BCAA “Worst Roads” survey defines a ‘worst road’ as any piece of paved infrastructure—including a bridge or tunnel—meant for public use, which exhibits any of the following characteristics:

  • has damaging potholes or crumbling pavement
  • needs resurfacing
  • is often heavily congested
  • has inadequate road markings or signs
  • is poorly designed for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to share safely

“By voting, you can draw some attention to those unsafe or inefficient roads that frustrate you the most”  says Ken Cousin, BCAA’s associate vice-president of Road Assist.

Last year, 581 stretches of road were identified by British Columbians as being some of the province’s most unsafe, overly congested or deteriorating roads. Westside Road, the winner for two years in a row, has seen a $6.5 million investment made by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure towards improvements such as, realignment, paving and slow-moving vehicle pullout projects.

Roads which receive 10 or more votes will be highlighted in the report provided to government.

Votes can be cast until May 26, 2014 and the Top 10 ‘Worst Roads’ List will be published  on the BCAA website.

Highway 16 West between Walmart and Vanway has my vote

Marleau and the frontage road between marleau and Bon Voyage. It serves major subdivisions and is a major access to and from hwy 16 and is literally disintegrating. It is narrow road with heavy traffic with no sidewalks.

I agree with both submissions. I don’t think we need the sidewalks, but definitely rebuild the road, not a cap over.

The highway just disintegrated over the winter months. almost as if there was a chemical spill which ate up the asphalt. its real bad, when you see parts falling off of vehicles going thru the section of road. a exhaust pipe almost hit me last winter.

Croft Road and Cook Crescent in the Hart are still in a deplorably unsafe condition. They are too narrow for a bus route, both Transit and school buses, have no sidewalk for the children, have sharp curves and have been patched over and over.
Even at a crawl the jarring of vehicle suspensions and passengers is so bad that this stretch should be attended to NOW and improved from fourth world conditions.

One may say out of sight out of mind but that is certainly never an excuse for safety being neglected for so many years!

Same whine. Newer vintage. Take time off work and start a revolution. Might work.

Har Har Har

Take your pick!

Queensway is in bad shape….

I think the reason why no roads made it last year was because they were all so bad, we couldn’t all agree on the worst!
