ANOTHER FIRE…wow. Seems like a LOT of fires lately.

@250News. Is there anything official saying The Copper Pig was damaged? On Twitter the Copper Pig account says that they’re checking for smoke damage and hope to be open this week.

Looks like you updated the story to remove that the Copper Pig was ‘destroyed’. Loose lips sink ships.

“Destroyed in the fire was Something Old and Something New. The extent of the damage to the Copper Pig next door is not known.”

Previous article said the above! From the pictures I’ve seen the Copper Pig building is intact. But who knows what the inside is like!

“Historic” good way to describe a pair of dilapidated buildings in the most commercially depressed areas in the entire city. Let it all burn, perhaps an act of God can accomplish what generations of city councils have failed to do.

The folks that ran/own the copper pig are great people.
Unfortunately those buildings are not very resistant to fire.
Hopefully they can get up and running again.

If they rebuild do they get the property tax break?
Could be a good incentive.

You like to see 100 year old buildings destroyed…jeez!

lildigger: “If they rebuild do they get the property tax break?”

There’s a slippery slope if I’ve ever seen it. For every generous tax break given out, tere’s another taxpayer standing there with his/her pockets turned inside out.

I assume these businesses are insured and the damages will be covered there. What’s that? My insurance rates went up again? Darn! ;-)

Historic or not the building was an eyesore and an accident waiting to happen

Lets just invite the whole country to show up and hold an extra competition for burning down buildings. Someone call Kamloops quick and see if they can take over, pretty sure they could.

I had a 35+ year old RV I was trying to find parts for at Big John’s a few years back. I asked if it’s age made it an antique. I was told no it just made it old junk lol. This is the same for most of these old “heritage” buildings downtown too.

Hartly, that’s funny.

There are few building in town that can fall in the Heritage class. Some are just old buildings.

Barkerville is a great place to visit if one desires to see old buildings which have real historical appeal.

As for Prince George – sure, some old houses are of some historical value, most of the others are just old and some of those are ready to be taken down, the sooner the better.

Part of the reason there is a lack of “heritage” buildings in PG is because too many people in the city don’t care about the areas where those would be “heritage” buildings are actually located.

So, 50 or 75 years from now, what will be a “heritage” building in PG? A spec home in Malaspina Ridge? The Timi’s on Victoria? Maybe the HSBC building?

Does Dan Mclaren not own 3 of these buildings?

Will be interesting to see how fast it will get cleaned up.

Glad no one was hurt in the fire.

Unless he purchased it recently he does not own the Something Old Something New building. The other 2 I have no clue.

I believe it is the next few.

He was on the news today saying he owned the buildings that burnt down. I wonder if he has paid his settlement to the province yet?

i had to call in a fire coming up the hart along the highway thursday night, this is getting a little strange.

Costco area had a bunch of fire trucks last night around 9:00. There was water pouring out of the sprinkler system drain on the outside of the Costco building and a fire truck outside the front door. Plus you could smell smoke all the way to the school and another fire truck at the four way stop. No reports on it today that I can see.
