Prince George, BC – Prince George RCMP are now investigating the fire that occurred on historic George Street late Sunday night…

The blaze broke out in the 300-block of George Street at approximately 11:30pm Sunday evening.  No damage estimate has yet been given for the businesses destroyed and damaged by the fire.

RCMP Media Relations Officer, Corporal Craig Douglass, says police often liaise with Prince George Fire Rescue on fires, particularly structure fires.  He says, in this case, the RCMP opted to open up a criminal investigation.

"We're not saying suspicious, we're not saying arson at this point,"says Corporal Douglass, "We are just basically, crossing the t's and dotting the i's to make sure that we've followed up on every bit of information before we make a determination."

Corporal Douglass expects to have an update on where the investigation is going next week.
