Prince George, BC – 'Treasure' hunters were out early this morning and a stop at a garage sale hosted by Royal LePage allowed city residents to feel doubly pleased with their purchases…

As part of the real estate company's national campaign to raise funds for shelters, all the money raised at today's sale will go to help the Phoenix Transition Society.

Organizer, Bob Quinlan, says, "The proceeds from the garage sale are sent to head office, they top it up with their contribution and when it comes back we take it – along with what we've collected in the office from agents – and hand it over to the Phoenix Transition Centre."

Quinlan adds that everything at today's sale went home with its new owner for a donation.  He says people realize there's a 'cause' behind the event and donate generously.

Co-organizer, Kim Ratzlaff, says this is the 6th or 7th year the local branch has hosted the fundraiser, and this year, they expanded offerings to include a bbq and facepainting – making it an 'event'.

"Turn out has been really great.  It's been really busy," she says.  "We had people showing up even before eight o'clock, so it's been great."

Although the sale wraps up at 1pm, city residents wanting to donate are invited to drop by the office during business hours.
