Smithers, B.C.-  The River Forecast Centre of B.C. has issued a high stream flow advisory for the Bulkley River near Smithers.

Warm temperatures over the past several days have led to rapid melt of the region’s snow pack. Precipitation on Friday and Saturday has combined with this melt and has led to rising river levels.

The Bulkley River at Quick is rising at 11 cm/day, while the  Bulkley near Smithers has risen 12 cm since Saturday, and is currently rising at 0.5 cm/hr.

Unsettled weather is forecast for today, with the potential for more precipitation on Wednesday. River levels are expected to remain elevated into the week, and modest additional rises are possible.

The River Forecast Centre will continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates as conditions warrant.
