Cottonwood Park Off Limits
Thursday, May 22, 2014 @ 4:08 AM
Prince George, B.C- Cottonwood Island Park is closed.
As was expected, City crews put the closed signs in place as river water submerged some of the trails.
The Fraser River was at 8.314 meters yesterday afternoon, just 1.08 meters below the official flood level of 9.4 meters.

Shocking… and to think this happens every year.
Only since they stopped dredging the river
I have been in PG a long time and I can’t remember not hearing about flooding at Cottonwood or paddlewheel park….
At the start of evry winter it seems the doomsdayers start their mantra about how we aren’t getting enough snow and will be a barren desert come summer and come spring they change the mantra to we are going to be flooded out due to too much snow or it is melting too fast or some other such fear mongering. And to think they actually get paid for that.
Pretty soon we will be hearing from the people who have once again been flooded out for the 20th time but have done nothing to prevent it..
Does anybody remember the trailer court that was at the west side of the railway bridge? Every spring, they would move all the mobile homes out because of flooding, when the river went down, the mobile homes were moved back. Finally, after many years of this BS, somebody decide in all their wisdom to give this trailer court a new, more permanent home. I believe it is now the Caladonia Mobile Home Park.
Taxi
I don’t think it was Caledonia Trailer Park, taxinapothole, but yes I remember it and it had a store there as well… it sat just above water level.
You are going back a ways…lol
but people keep building on the river frontage and they keep whining when they get flooded…one would think people would learn, but apparently not.
wonder how long it will take for the new vineyard to get flooded ?
Met the manager for that trailer court, said it belonged to Ben Ginter. My memories of rafting between our home and the first school, ( it was set back about 150 yds from River Road) were fun times.
Wonder if Alcan’s gonna release any water during flood time, LOL.
I remember visiting at your house Griz :-), I also remember all the flooding one The Cache.

Dredging does nothing to prevent freshet flooding. If you dredge the river the hole you make fills with water.
Dredging the river would prevent flooding caused by ice jams though.
“wonder how long it will take for the new vineyard to get flooded ?”

Want to bet tons of your money would be spent to prevent that from ever happening?
