Oiling Up the Green Machine for A Federal Run

Thursday, May 22, 2014 @ 4:57 AM

Prince George, B.C.- There’s been a major changing of the guard at the  Cariboo-Prince George Conservative Riding Association.

At the Association’s Annual General Meeting held on the weekend,  a new crew of directors  was  selected  among the  near 120 attendees.  A new executive was also chosen.

It would now appear the rumours  Prince George Mayor Shari Green  will be seeking the  nomination for the  riding ( should Dick Harris decide to  retire)  are  true.  250News  notes many  of the newly elected directors were the same folks who worked so diligently to get  Shari Green elected to the Mayor’s office in Prince George.

Here is the list of elected  directors, and  those that made it to the executive ranks as well.

Of the names on the list,  some  are known to have made financial contributions to Ms. Green’s Mayoral bid  (Alain LeFebvre, Carla Johnston, Janine North and Lloyd Clay).  Ken Sands was listed as her official campaign manager, of course, Ms. Green and her husband Chuck Walls are also on the list.

What is not known is if  Ms. Green plans to run  for the Mayor’s office this fall,  then  seek the nomination  in the Cariboo-Prince George riding should it become available.  That would be similar to what Councillor Cameron Stolz did  when  he  took a shot at the  nomination for the Prince George -Peace River riding when MP Jay Hill retired.  Stolz did not step down  or away from Council  in order to  make that bid.  As we all  know,  it was Bob Zimmer who was the victor in that nomination race.

Why just screw up a city when you can screw up a whole region.

Does Janine North still have a executive position at NDIT? If so, than as a manager of public funds being invested I don’t think its appropriate to be on a partisan board of directors in the political arena.

If mayor Green does have plans to run for Dick Harris seat, then one would hope she would have the integrity to be upfront about it during the municipal election. Hopefully it wouldn’t be an issue anyways if someone else was to be elected.

if so, then….

I’m confused about Stolz’s involvement here. Since he ran for the PG-Peace River seat I assumed he was a resident of the riding but I see he’s president of the Cariboo-PG riding? Why aren’t their residency requirements here?

Wow, I guess political egos know no limits.

Please no……

Minimally four of the names on this list are Ms. Green’s family members.

Harper tolerates no nonsense or dissenting behaviour. He gives them the hook, a tool unavailable in municipal affairs. Federal politics can be a challenge, just ask Pamela and Mike and many others!

Green being elected as an MP is only the first step. After a few years and Harper retires Green could be elected Prime Minister.
As a previous writer noted “why screw up a city when you can screw up a whole region” as an MP. Just think, Green as Prime Minister means she can destroy a whole country.
The Peter Principle works in mysterious ways.

This should be good. Queen sherry will get the same fate as Stolz.

Dick must be having a good laugh, however in this area they could run a dog and get elected so Green could well be the next MP if Dick….

First time ever I’d not vote PC in a federal election if this come about.

“Oiling up the Green Machine..” Lol..

Say What ? this must be a joke , please tell me this is no right . She will get no vote here .

Eagleone wrote: “Then one would hope she would have the integrity to be upfront about it during the next municipal election.”

Good luck with that one….Green changed her tune when challenged by Meisner on the Haldi fiasco during his talk show. Everybody remember that one?

A leopard cannot change its spots/stripes.

Is it my imagination or are some of the names affiliated with the Haldi Centre group?

So it appears that Ms. Green just wants to be in municipal politics as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

In a way, I can see her point. She would have a lower profile and generally less scrutiny in Dick Harris’ old seat while earning more money, plus get to bump shoulders with the big players in Ottawa. What’s not to like?

I think Green is trying to steal a page from Diane Watts career path book. There are a few obvious differences, Ms. Watts is a three term mayor of Surrey with a long list of accomplishments and still sits held in high regard by her constituents.

Green on the other hand is a single term mayor whose list of positive accomplishments could be written on the head of a pin. Known for putting the interests of business and “long term friends” ahead of the wishes of neighbourhoods, telling residents if they don’t like it they can FO and find greener grass elsewhere. Worst mayor that I have seen in my time here, one decent candidate running against her would send her packing this fall anyway.

As for her replacing Harris, go for it, she can do a lot less damage to PG sitting on the WAY back benches in Ottawa than at the head of the table here. Can continue the job Dick has done for years- seat filler/air waster. Bonus…the rest of the country can help pay her wages.

BTW Eagleone is not one to talk about being upfront as he is talking about throwing his hat in the ring but still does not post under his real name on this site, unlike some others who have declared their intentions. Time to put up or…..

And is Stolz her Campaign Manager? Good points lonesome….agree

How clueless is she? Most hated mayor of all times, she wants to be known nationally for her stupidity and incompetence.

I really want that useless Richard out of there. But Sheri Green is really not going to be looking after us, still better than what we have.

Give us a statesperson instead of a politician, Give us a person who feels the need to make a change, instead of a pension. Don Zurowski, where are you

What, Shari already knows she is going to get toasted at the municipal election, so she is getting plan B in place????

Looking at the list, I think Janine has the savy to get it done well. She is a terrific speaker, and will be recognized very quickly in Ottawa.

A Snow Ball’s chance in Hell….nuff said.

I think part of the problem with our current political system is that voters want to be able to connect with the people they elect. They want them to be like their neighbour or the guy they sit beside at the hockey game.

Generally speaking, I don’t. I don’t care which party you represent, I want the most intelligent and capable people out there running for office. I don’t want cattle farmers deciding which countries they should align our trade programs with, nor do I want someone who sells cheap trinkets impacting national defence policy. It’s absolutely insane!

I want economists in office. I want generals in office. I want doctors in office. I want scientists in office. I want lawyers in office. I want people in office who actually understand the complexities of the world we live in and how those complexities impact our country, our society and the programs that the government administers on our behalf.

I’m getting tired of our “dumbed down” society and the prevailing belief that everyone is just as capable as everyone else. It just isn’t the case.

“Give us a statesperson instead of a politician”

============================

Yes, that too!!!!

NMG – I so fully agree with you, but the party system is such that once they get elected, they represent the party – not us, and they’ll throw us under the bus if the PMO tells them to. So, you really vote for the party, not the person. So next election, if you are a dyed in the wool Conservative, but can’t stand Green, it doesn’t matter, because when she get’s to Ottawa, she’s going to do what she’s told – by the party.

Now, electing qualified professionals makes great sense, but they don’t want the job – because it doesn’t pay enough for the crap you have to put up with. For example, the average doctor can easily net $200,000, and get to go to sleep in the same bed every night, not so as an MP. Fact is, thank God for the civil service who probably mitigate a lot of the damage poor quality Ministers would do if left to their own devices.

So if the entire local card carrying members dispise Dick Harris, why keep him in there. Why doesn’t the local people oust him, a get a better person or dog for the position

Green announced a little while ago she will not be running for mayor….

From CKPG – “She has not said what her future plans are, however she says she is considering other ways in which she can serve the community and region. She says she will make her future plans known to the public at an appropriate time in the future.”

NMP, yes the elected officials butts are covered by the civil servants that has there own guidelines of operations. which provides us with a bit of continuity. Otherwise we end up being a third world dictator situation.

Is it just me or do some of these names ring a bell, at least 3 of them are on the board for the Northern Supportive Recover Centre according to the presentation to council October 3,2011….

Things that make you go hmmm

I did that when Kinsley wanted Jay Hill’s old seat. I’m not much of a joiner but I really wanted to keep Kinsley out of Ottawa.

At the Federal level, we in the west usually find ourselves over a barrel anyway, so I usually choose party lines.

Saying all this, I will likely vote for Harper over Trudeau. Meaning I will have to vote for Shari Green.

Sad, but the old guards of Ontario still believe Canada is all between Toronto and Montreal. The rest of us don’t matter. Reason why I would vote for the Choir Boy, than the Socialist Trudeau. At Least Harper is from the west.

lord, have mercy on us

When I read that Sheri Green might run as a Conservative Party of Canada candidate, should Dick Harris retire, I thought of this news story immediately:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/06/pets-in-politics-animals-who-ran-for-office_n_1859256.html

Seriously, if Big Oil & Gas told Harper to throw a ball, and Shari Green managed to find that ball and return it to Harper, we have all the qualifications a Conservative Party of Canada candidate needs!

NMG, I read your comment about having better qualified candidates and politicians, and completely agree with you… but the reality is; as long as the Conservatards are running our Cities, Provinces, and Country, the current situation is the way it will be.

This executive list is sad. Some are Green’s family members and most are her friends. I laugh at Craig Woods’ wife being on the list. I guess money does buy you anything.

I did that when Kinsley wanted Jay Hill’s old seat. I’m not much of a joiner but I really wanted to keep Kinsley out of Ottawa.

But Kinsley is in Ottawa, working for big oil!
