Green Announces She Won’t Run For Mayor’s Chair
Prince George, B.C.- Just a few hours after 250News revealed the new line up at the Cariboo Prince George Conservative Riding Association, Shari Green has issued a statement saying she will not be seeking re-election in the Prince George Municipal election this fall.
Here is her full statement:
“I am announcing today I will not be seeking a third term in municipal office. I am sharing this decision today in order to give mayoral contenders ample time to make their intentions known and for them to begin sharing their platforms with the citizens of Prince George.
I have served two terms at City Council and it has been my honour to serve as Mayor for the city I love. It has been a privilege to lead the city while keeping taxes low, reducing crime and improving conditions for business.
My family and I would like to thank everyone for their support, faith and encouragement over the last six years.
I am considering other ways in which I will continue to serve this community and the region. In the coming days, when the time is appropriate, I look forward to sharing that publicly.
In the meantime I will continue to remain focused on the important work that Prince George residents elected me to do.”
The statement comes as no surprise to 250News which has long predicted she would be seeking a jump to federal politics. The only hitch is the fact MP Dick Harris, has yet to announce if he will or will not be seeking another term in office when the next federal election rolls around.

Thank goodness.
Good riddance! How long will it take us to get this bad taste out of our mouths?
I guess she wanted to spare herself the embarrassment of the citizens of PG showing her how they feel about her when they go to vote this November.
It’s time to wake up PG!!
Get informed and get out and vote.
Amen! Let the doors open. Let’s see who will step up and LEAD. Skakun? Hall? Who knows?
‘While keeping taxes low’ is her head up her …
Release the doves, give the kids the day off school and take em’ golfing at Pine Valley Golf Course. This is a good day. Can we package in Mr Stoltz with her ?
Thank you Mayor Green… in so many ways. But especially for this.
That is a good way for the federal conservatives to forfeit a long standing seat in Ottawa.
Green:”It has been a privilege to lead the city while keeping taxes low…” but raising them nevertheless while more than doubling our utility fees.
This is a great day, even the rain is sparkling with joy!
chloe you beat me to it , and yes her head is up her…..
Well, her supporters will now look for another strong business person with the same wing nut ideas and waste, increase in taxes and user fees experienced under Green and guess what people will sit on their ass and let it happen…
Green:”It has been a privilege to lead the city while keeping taxes low…” but raising them nevertheless while more than doubling our utility fees.

Yes indeed. Yes indeed.
Good riddance.
Great news but not unexpected since many of us are aware of her intentions to run for the federal election! Does she really think that she has a chance?? Come on Green, give your head a shake!!!
guess i can put away all the Shari Greed signs I made for the next election..i’m so glad she came to the conclusion that she would never be voted in again. Thank God!
^^^ throw them in your garbage can. Might as well get your monies worth from the 100+% increase in utilities she brought upon us.
Wahoo, dancing in the streets tonight.
She started out well, but kind of fizzled away.
Too bad she didn’t run for mayor again. It would have been nice to see her smug face voted out.
It will be even more rewarding to see her lose the conservative nod.
Make sure to sign up as a Conservative party member and vote “anything but green”
You all think she was a tough pill to swallow as mayor?
Her ego will grow 100 fold as an MP.
There must be a lot of barf in people mouths right now.
Well, no wonder she refused to talk to 250 News!, what with the reception she is getting here now!
Ha, ha.
“I am considering other ways in which I will continue to serve this community and the region. In the coming days, when the time is appropriate, I look forward to sharing that publicly”
She’s probably be running in Prov elections
A vote for Lyn Hall as mayor is a vote for Shari Green – both the same peas in the same pod.
Woodwoman. There is no comparison between Hall and Green. Two different personalities altogether.
Hall voted against selling Pine Valley. Green voted to sell.
Hall voted against the high priced downtown parking venture Green voted for it.
Hall voted against the licensing of suites, and houses, Green voted for it.
If you want to see two peas in a pod, look at Green and Stoltz.
Green is gone, that’s a good thing. Stoltz needs to make a similar announcement and then we are on our way to make some changes at City Hall.
Shari had a tough job to do and I think she did it as best she could. For all the mysoginistic, double standard posters out there, don’t think the next mayor will is going to do any better. If Shari had been a man, there would not have been half the criticisms made here.
I wish her all the best in her future. Too bad I don’t vote Conservative though, not until they remove Harper as leader anyway.
Thank god!
– keeping taxes low my ass.
– maybe reducing crime but not much
and finally
-improving conditions for business.. lol
‘her business was clear of snow while everyone else had mountainz’
Brian skakun run for mayor!!
Do it Brian! Regardless of if Green was running again or not.
Ibear, I haven’t read one post that mentions Mayor Greens’ gender as a hindrance to her performance in office. You are looking for an angle that is just not there. I will agree that not all of the mess that our City is in can be laid at her feet, but she did very little to mitigate said mess while in office as both Mayor & Councillor.
As was mentioned in a previous post, even a rock would win this Federal riding if it was Conservative, Ms. Green must be prevented from getting the Conservative nomination if Silent Dick vacates. If she gets the nomination, she is a shoe in.
I agree with detoe43. Who ever get the Conservative nomination should be able to get elected in this riding without to much trouble.
My bet is that Sherri already has plenty of support for the nomination if the list of the new directors, etc; are any indication.
People will have to get off their asses and make an effort to stop her from being nominated, and I don’t see this happening in Prince George. Couch potatoes usually don’t do much more than grunt.
Shari Green running under the conservative banner federally is the best reason I can think of to vote NDP or Liberal.
Sure hope every one got their $81,000 dollars worth back.
The nomination can only be won by membership voters, get your membership and let’s make sure that SHE DOES NOT win the nomination. There are others, and more to come, who will be interested in the nomination. If she does win, you can be certain the the Conservative Party will not be getting in!!!
How can she seriously think that she can win when she is so disliked!!
What an arrogant statement to say that you are announcing that you are not running so that other mayoral candidates can have time to make their intentions known. Like any of them care if she is running or not. Not like she would have won this mayoral election. Good riddance Sheri Green!
The part about keeping taxes low truly has me confused as our water sewer and garbage has continually gone up as well as their new stupid rain off my driveway tax not to mention just received tax notice in the mail today and it has gone up approximately 9%———-how pray tell does these things constitute her statement of lower taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!
She didn’t say that she lowered taxes, she said she kept them low! Compared to what? Other similar sized cities charge a bit more because they actually have real sidewalks that one can walk on, nicely landscaped parks, right turn lanes which are longer than one car, no broken curbs, highway medians which are planted with flowering shrubs and trees (Vernon, Kelowna, Kamloops, Penticton…) and so forth! A few magnificent new glass and wood faced buildings amid a neglected surroundings and deep ditches do not make a presentable city!
Good news!… but remember that she is not done here yet as a mayor. Alot more damage may yet come our way before this term is up.
“In the meantime I will remain focused on the important work that Prince George residents elected me to do”.. we’ve been warned.
Does she get the Nissan “Leaf” as a departing prize?
It would be great if any of you basement dwelling , complaining, zero initiative citizens offered a solution. Have any of you ever run for city council and tried to be a difference? Probably not.
wow such a commitment to the top job at city hall that she bails before she even finishes her first term. Running as MP might be tough as I hear she and PG council aren’t well liked in the region. I wonder where Rodgers is and if he will make another run for mayor? He was well liked but from what I hear he pissed off some of Green’s friends because he wouldn’t cozy up to them. If he runs against Hall or Skakun it would make things interesting.

Do you really think your announcement means anything to anyone that may be running for mayor?

And you’ve done what? Come here and criticize others?
Yeah Leroy, you go girl!
It must be easy. You bashers should all then run.
The critics should note that doing is harder than criticising. Municipal politics seems to be designed to move slowly since every councillorâs interests can rarely be satisfied at the same time. The leader in the group, Shari, is the one with the courage to present alternatives and show alternatives based on facts. Shari was very successful and Prince George is better for having her input and leadership over the time she was part of council. Shari took personal risks to show us alternatives. The organization that gains Shari will benefit from our loss.
Green is Gone, That is good….what is amazing though is all the mental midgets that are suggesting Skakum run???! This is whats wrong with PG, fools are lining up to vote!
