Rotating Strikes To Hit BC Schools This Week
Prince George, BC – It will be a week of rotating strikes at schools across the province starting tomorrow…
Schools in 17 districts will be behind pickets tomorrow. In North Central BC, School Districts #28 (Quesnel) and #59 (Peace River South) will be impacted. The job action will hit Prince George and schools throughout District #57 on Thursday. (for a complete list, click here)
A news release issued by the BC Teachers' Federation this afternoon says President Jim Iker will be on the picket line with teachers at an elementary school in Vancouver tomorrow morning, but he's scheduled to be at the bargaining table in the afternoon. The BCTF announced last week that teachers would be ramping up their job action from refusing supervision to the rotating strikes to protest a lack of movement on the government's part on wages and classroom size and composition.
The provincial government has countered the teachers' rotating job action with a 10-percent pay cut and has announced lock-outs in high schools on June 25th and 26th. The lock-out will be imposed on all schools June 27th.

If I had a computer teacher I wouldn’t have made those mistakes.
Since the teachers are on lock out who is going to look after my kid at lunch time out side. Good job Gov you have just made the teachers look a lot better
Teachers haven’t been looking after your kids at lunch for a long time buzzinga – its admin staff
I am generally opposed to the mighty techers union but have to keep my mouth shut when in my brothers presence (who is a teacher and married to one aswell).
No doubt you kept your ears closed as well DPJ, when you were in your brothers presence!
I wonder why 250news even allows comments on these stories? It’s the same old, same old from the same old, same old. :)

you need so much more than a computer teacher Duhragon.
Who cuts the government’s wages when they give poor government. By my estimation they are currently at less than 50% efficient.
They have a failing grade in education;children and families programs;fitness and health;natural gas promotion;energy efficiency; hydro development; recycling etc., etc.,
So who cuts their salary for these failures.
My bet is that they will give themselves another raise long before they address the salaries of the teachers.
trackster, if our politician’s aren’t doing the job that we want them to do, we as the electorate have the opportunity at election time to replace them! So far, the majority of people that bother to vote have continued to put a right wing government in power.
You might not like the results of the last election, or the election before that, or even the one before that, but that’s the way the system works.
Now imagine that your child has a teacher, one that you feel is ineffective, one that should find a career in anything other than teaching. It’s easy to imagine, after all, I’m sure that most if not all of us have had a teacher like that at some time in our life.
Ok, so now that you are imagining that, how do you get rid of that teacher? The simple answer is you don’t!! You can’t!! It’s not like the BCTF would be willing to do anything to help you!!
That poor quality teacher just keeps teaching and teaching and teaching!
I agree with Hart Guy. Would be nice if “The People” could hold teachers accountable for there inadequacy or lack of enthusiasm teaching our children. I feel the Government should devise a cost effective way to teach our children. Maybe by means of utilizing proven “professors” teaching by way of internet and having the children complete weekly modules which would be mailed in weekly for assessing, marking and reviewing were the the child needs attention in to improve his or her grade average. Marking than would be completed in a non-bias manner, again by a proven professionals. Parents have lost there rights to adequately advocate for there own child’s rights.I have found it frustrating as hell myself on a couple of occasions trying to fight for my children’s right just to find that the school was diligently working and conniving ways to cover up wrongful doing on there colleagues behalf. Sick of some teachers, not all teachers!
