Crap, they let Dick Chenney back in the country.

Tell that to the dead man’s family, I’m sure they see the humor in it like you seem to.

Maybe the yanks should stay and hunt in their own country. Leave our animals to us.

Yep lets put the guides out of busyness.

Was he trophy hunting?

“Yep lets put the guides out of busyness” .. yes please, lets do. As an avid hunter I am sick and tired of running across them in the bush during hunting season and having them act as if no one should be allowed there except them and their clients. I have yet to meet a guide who doesn’t think they own the land on their guiding territory.

It is a loss of human life and that is tragic. But you are right Huh, I too spend a lot of time in the fall outdoors and the guides do act like you should not be there. I have yet to meet a guide that does not bait bears even though they say they don’t.
Found plenty of corn in bear scat in the bush. There was also a guide caught by a hunter that was shooting calf moose and using it for Grizzly bait.
But you can blame our government for all the guides that are allowed out there.

One more thing the only person required to have a first aid course is the guide.
And yet I have run into guide assistants that have a client with them and these guide assistants can be packing groceries 1 week in your local grocery store and then be guide assistants the next, all these assistants should have first aid ticket, bear awareness course, survival course and orientation course before there allowed to guide any one.
Lord knows we have to a licence to run a 8 foot boat.

One of his american hunting partners shot him.

The reason we are not over run by wild pigs is that we have bears . Our bears are worth way more than American so called hunters and guides . Sadly the bear also died a premature death .

Any opportunity for some not so thinly veiled bigotry…
Stay classy Canada.

Guided hunts bring a lot of money into the communities, a lot more than the hunters that come up from the lower mainland to hunt here.

If this man was indeed shot by another American in his hunting party, then the Dick Cheney reference has some merit, although it is was used in bad taste.

Most unfortunate. :(

“Guided hunts bring a lot of money into the communities, a lot more than the hunters that come up from the lower mainland to hunt here.” .. oh you mean the communities that the guides come from? A lot of guides don’t even live in the area they have territories, so their earnings go back to where they come from. BC hunters contribute a lot more to local economies than out of province or out of country hunters. They also pay more into the habitat fund as well.

Bears 1, guides, 0.

Bear was wounded and reared up. During a fast moving situation the Hunter may have gotten in the line of fire when the guide went to shoot the bear.

I agree that guided hunts contribute significantly to the provincial economy, they also employ a lot of local people, if only in short durations.
I think that a requirement of any guided hunt should be target practice at an organized rifle range.
Have heard too many stories about poor marksmanship on the part of our visiting hunters, wounded animals that escape, and ‘unclean’ kills.
Not suggesting that those issues are related to this story.
metalman.

Talked with a father/son on my flight home from Vancouver on Sunday. They were up from Arizona and going bear hunting. Those two were a couple of good guys, I sure hope it wasn’t them!

Other media sites like the Province report a lone hunter from Washington State with two guides. Horrible tragedy for any guide to live with. Condolences to the family, more than likely a freak accident
