Rubble on George Street
Prince George, B.C. – The plan may have been to have two George Street buildings ravaged by fire cleared away by Saturday but, as we all know, sometimes plans change.
The structures housing two shops in the 300 block George, Something Old Something New and Mothers N More Maternity, were destroyed by fire the night of May 4th. The building next door which is the home of the Copper Pig restaurant incurred substantial damage and is closed until later this year. The RCMP have been conducting an investigation into the fire but to this point have not said what the cause was.
In the meantime, the rubble of the two destroyed shops was to have been removed by Saturday. However, while workers were busy with an excavator placing the rubble on one lot into waste bins, the excavator on the other lot sat silent.
One of the workers explained it this way. You have two separate businesses, at least two different insurance companies involved, and two separate contractors working the two sites. So while one is basically clear now, the understanding is that the pile of rubble on the other should be cleared away next week.
