P.G. Roads NOT Among Top Ten Worst in BC

Tuesday, June 24, 2014 @ 3:52 AM

Prince George, B.C. – As the  City of Prince George embarks on its most  extensive road rehab season ever ($9.8 million dollars worth) , news that  not one Prince George road made it to the BCAA top ten list for  worst roads in the province.

In the past, Ospika Boulevard had been named the worst road in the province,   along with stretches of Domano Boulevard, but  that is not the case for 2014.

The annual campaign  saw a record number of votes cast, but  it was the road to Silver Star in Vernon which took  the number one spot as the worst road in the province.   Those who voted cited this  road for  potholes and crumbling pavement.

Potholes and crumbling pavement  accounted for 40% of the  road complaints in the top ten,  while traffic congestion  accounted for 40% and Pedestrian and cycling safety  made up 20% of the complaints.

Three different sections of Westside Road  in Kelowna made it to the top 10,  in spots,  #2, #4 and #9.  Westside Road  has been the worst road in the province  in  the BCAA’s surveys in 2012 and again in 2013.

Maybe we just got tired of complaining about them?

I think what they’ve done here is a huge improvement over what was done in the last fifteen years or so.
There are still some roads that really need repair. Baker is one that comes to mind.

Meh, you want bad roads go to the Peace Region. I mean we have pot hole roads but we don’t have crumbling pavement and giant holes to drive around when it rains. The worst I thought was Westwood by Pine Centre, but it’s all fixed and took far too long if you ask me.

I agree with axman. Most people are tired of complaining.

In any event we have a huge expenditure this year on roads. $6 Million from our taxes, and $3.8 Million from the Federal Gas Tax money. If we can keep the momentum going, we will in the next few years have the best roads, rather than the worst. Now that would be something to boast about.

“Most people are tired of complaining.”

I agree! Yes, I am one of those.

I tried getting the very heavily used, very poor Marleau, Bear rds listed but not many votes for some reason. These roads service a major shopping center, three large subdivisions, a school, major access to highway 16. There is llittle to no room for the pedestrian traffic.

The city ignores these two roads for some reason.

Siure there are other roads in poor condition in PG but I doubt they get near the traffic.

I think there are just too many bad roads in PG for enough people to agree on in order to make the list.
Marleau and Bear I never drive on, so they wouldn’t get my vote. I don’t doubt that they’re horrible though.

Now it’s time to work on crime. Get this city off the top of most dangerous in canada.

Consolidate and off load. North of the Nechako? Give it to the RDFFG. Same with Pineview and such east of the Fraser. Beaverly also. No more new subdivisions in P.G. in the near future. Infill all vacant land within the township. Lower city taxes and still lose by paying more taxes to Victoria. Stop growth and focus on quality. That in itself will reap dividends down the road as an attraction bonus. Can’t be done? Etched in stone? Nah! Just with a stroke of the right pen. And guts.

Well there’s my laugh of the day. Folks on this site agreeing that they are tired of complaining. Ha!
