Prince George, BC – The number and value of building permits issued in the city last month jumped by more than 30-percent compared to May of 2013.

Last year, there were a total of 86 permits issued in May, with a total value of $29.2-million dollars.  Last month, the city issued 139 permits worth a $39.2-million dollars.

Some of the 'big ticket' building permits include: a new steam turbine generator for Canfor Pulp's Intercontinental Mill valued at $3.5-million dollars, the new All West Glass building on Victoria Street totalling $3.1-million dollars, $1-million dollars in improvements to the BC Hydro building on Nicholson Street, $736-thousand dollars for upgrades to the cafeteria at UNBC, and $300-thousand for renovations to KFC on Domano Boulevard.

In addition, there were 13 permits issued last month for new home construction, worth $3.5-million dollars.  That brings year to date numbers to 35 permits issued for new single family dwellings, so far, in 2014, with a total value just shy of $10-million dollars.  In 2013, only 13 permits in total had been issued by May, worth $4.4-million dollars.

One permit downtown on that list = BUILDiNg BOoM!

Lildigger that is a good one , big building boom , no doubt . My question why would there be one ????

One permit downtown? No wonder “downtown revitalization” is moving like a glacier. But , I guess these things take time. And we got plenty of that. That one permit will prove, during the next election that the universe here in P.G. is unfolding as it should.

The only boom I see is 30 yrs of downtown revitalization blowing up in city councils faces
