Hall Says Mayor’s Race About Leadership Style And Re-Connecting
With his wife, Lorrelle, and daughters, Sydney and Jordan, by his side, City Councillor Lyn Hall has officially announced he's running for mayor 250News photo
Prince George, BC – With a diverse cross-section of the community gathered on the front lawns of City Hall, Councillor Lyn Hall has announced he will seek the Mayor's job in the November municipal elections…and said the race will, ultimately, be about leadership style and re-building relationships.
Hall made the leap from school board to city council during the 2011 campaign, and was the top vote-getter, with 9436 ballots cast in his favour.
With approximately 100 family, friends, colleagues and supporters from groups like Prince George Fire Rescue, the local Indo-Canadian community, local arts groups, and seniors' group reps were on-hand, Hall says, "This is very, very humbling to me and it is heartwarming to see this kind of support."
"I believe that leadership is one of the key aspects of this campaign," says the former SD57 Board Chair. "Particularly the leadership style of our future mayor – as your mayor, building and strengthening relationships, making council more accessible to the community and utilizing the the strengths of individual councillors more effectively is my approach."
Hall says tough decisions shaped much of his first-hand experience with the school district – he was on the board during the early 2000s when declining student enrollment, deep budget cuts, and school closures were an annual challenge. "During those years on the school board, we were able to build a team around the table from a variety of backgrounds and political beliefs. As your mayor, that is what I would bring to the table – the ability to build a team."
Hall believes his experience guiding the school board – with its 1600 employees, 50-plus facilities, and $120-million dollar budget – through challenging times is what sets him apart from the only other declared candidate at this time, former Councillor Don Zurowski.
Among the issues Hall foresees facing the next council: infrastructure needs and how city council deals with aging facilities, equipment and underground services, as well as continued road rehabilitation; the proposed Performing Arts Centre; working with RCMP and Prince George Fire Rescure to strengthen the city in all areas; and financial accountability. "How do we, as mayor and council, provide the services that we need, want, and require within the existing financial constraints.
As part of his commitment to re-connect with the community, Hall says, if elected, he would propose council liaison appointments – aligning councillor's strengths with community needs.
"I want to make sure that we have a council that's connected with the community," says the mayoral hopeful. "My style is to be more inclusive, more engaging, more communication – and that's what I would like to see the new council direction look like."
"So, if you see me trying to choose bananas, lettuce or whatever it might be at Costco or Superstore, make sure you grab me – I'd love to have a conversation with you."

Holy Crap! Is that the RBC building, all glass. Looks really good, facade or not. Goes to show how long it has been since I have visited downtown.
No, that’s the Wood Innovation Centre – but RBC is being renovated to look similar.
He’s not going to be any better than Green, since he was in agreement with her on many (not all) of the issues. I hope someone not on council runs ….. need new blood. The only current councilman that would be worth anything is Skakun, but he’s stated he doesn’t have time to do the job; possibly Murray Krause; but none of the other current council members. Lets hope for some good new blood …………… I’d even vote for Fetterly before I’d vote for Hall
Fetterly for mayor!
“I want to make sure that we have a council that’s connected with the community,…”
Only if all of them are realistic newcomers. Fat chance that will happen.
How did that song go.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Different day, different faces, same old tired BS.
Lynn Hall will not make one iota of a difference for this city, especially with the infrastructure. Infrastructure is a ponzi scheme at its best. Cities grow and city leadership allows growth so they can build a bigger tax base to pay for all the infrastructure. Future promises built on creating artificial wealth today.
Forget being able to pay for roads. Better start planning for the day when the infrastructure bubble will burst.
Lynn Hall or another smiling face is not going to stop that.
It appears that Don Zurowski has put his name forward for the position as well. He is not a newcomer and in my opinion a welcome alternative to consider.
Will not get my vote – useless as Board chair for SD#57 – loves to sit on the fence; does not have a backbone!
Yeah Yeah……Same s&i& different person
A good choice for mayor. He’s intelligent, he listens and he has class.
He’ll get my vote.
I hope he shows some leadership that has been sadly lacking from civic politics lately.
“A good choice for mayor. He’s intelligent, he listens and he has class.”
——————————————-
Somehow that doesn’t seem to get the roads fixed.
How about someone who does something without lauding it?
I second that…”Fetterly for mayor!” hahahahah
Good luck Lyn, I tend to judge people by their children, and you and lorrelle have done a great job.You have always treated my family with respect and with open ears. You WILL get my vote, and I wish you all the success that you and your family deserve. Just be ready for all the peaks and valley’s that come with the positions of authority that you are willing to receive as you move forward in making our community an even better place.
Thanks ski50. Somehow I wasn’t thrown off by the RBC building being teleported across the street from the Ramada.
I can really comment on the subject at had, I am not really informed about this candidate. I’ll have to wait to see how believable his platform is.
Hey, Mr. Hall. I know you’re reading this so my advice is kinda third or 3000ths hand but, “negative campaigning has been a feature of democracy since Quintus wrote a short guide to electioneering for his brother, Cicero. “Avoid taking positions, while practising calculated ambiguity,” he advised. What a coincidence that was in my newspaper today, eh?
I am looking for someone who is a LEADER and has the community in mind, also someone who can talk to his/her constituents. Do not want a too face individual who can speak well during press releases, but is unable to listen to her “people”! Someone who actually takes the time to listen, and be sincere when doing so!
Green is NOT a LEADER, just someone who like the importance of the role. Doesn’t communicate at all, her way or no way!
Hall and Zurowski! So far I like what Hall had to say when he made his announcement. I would like to see what Don has to offter?
Boy are you people in PG ever lucky. Now you will get a PAC.
Cheers
We don’t need another ex school board member in politics. Bond is already one to many!
I would like to see a mayoral contender charity boxing match a la Trudeau and Brazeau. I would vote for the winner. (:
Sorry I’m not running for mayor Hartly 2.
Good Luck Lynn!!! Glad to see you are running for Mayor. I am sure you will be an awesome Mayor.
When you consider that Hall got 9436 Votes in the last election for Councilor, one would have to assume that he has some support.
The last time Zurowski ran for Mayor he could only garner 5500 votes. Not enough to win obviously.
If Hall hangs on to his support he will in fact be our new Mayor, however we still have 5 Months to go, and we will get much more information before then.
Has either Hall or Zurowski said where they stand on fluoridation? It is a question on the ballot so it would be good to know where the wanna be mayors stand.
Zurowski didn’t listen to the many who wanted it taken out of our water supply while he was on council for more than a decade and one of his pals is Kingsley who was an outspoken supporter of fluoridation when he was on Council. Where does Hall stand on the issue?
With the supporters that were there for Zurowski’s announcement it seems he has close ties with Green and her backers while at Hall’s announcement he had many of the diverse groups that supported Rogers in 2008 so it could unfold the same way with Don finishing second.
Either Don or Lyn will be better than what we have. The best thing about the upcoming election is that Green will be gone! Enough with politicians who say one things to get elected and then do the opposite once they get in.
The last election was an unfortunate but valuable lesson. Too bad our mistake drove a few good people away from politics but maybe they will return or maybe some fresh new faces will step forward. Going to be interesting.
No choice here , Zurowski , and Hall , where is Fetterly when you need him ? No vote here unless someone else puts their name in the hat .
Go Lyn! Best of luck
IMO Lyn was fair, respectful, took a position and stuck to it when he was on the school board. he also brought in many measures to make the board more open and accessible.
He didn’t get elected three times to the board because he wasn’t good at it!
Nor did he get elected to council by a small margin!
Nope, Lyn is definitely the man for the job!
1canada, doesn’t matter the record that got him to council, nor the name recognition and hopes that he could change the face of the city council.
What matters is how did he perform on council? Was he just a yes man to private interest groups or did he do some due diligence and meet those on both sides of the issue to understand concerns and benefits and vote accordingly? Just sayin’
Lyn Hall had the chance to vote with Koehler and Everitt when they put a motion forward in 2013 to end water fluoridation immediately instead of going to referendum. But, NO, he voted with Green et al to continue AWF and go to referendum. So, I think it’s pretty clear, he supports artificial water fluoridation.
If you check the record-Hall along with the rest of the council members have been pretty consistent with their voting record – identical to how Green has voted! Green has one vote – we are where we are because THEY as a group, put us here.
It’s only been in the last six months that certain council members have been trying to distance themselves from Green in an attempt to get re-elected. They have become the kings of the great “yes we will, uh wait, no we won’t” bylaw bingo.
Filtered. You must be looking at the voting record of some other City, because in Prince George, Hall voted against the Mayor, Stoltz, Wilbur, on a number of occasions.
Downtown parking, licensing for secondary units, to name a few. In actual fact Hall, along with Everitt, led the charge to get some of these bogus issue’s off the table.
Flouride is a non-issue, has always been a non-issue, and will probably continue to be a non-issue. A lot of hyperbole by a very small number of people. The fact that it is going to a referendum should settle is one way or another.
Hopefully after the referendum we will hear the last of the fluoride issue. I cant think of a more boring issue.
Hall was a mirror image of Green for the last 3 years. He represented the mayor not the people when he was on council, he will do the same as mayor.
superdave. Your comments don’t make a lot of sense.
How can he represent the Mayor, when he would be the Mayor.
Your rush to associate Hall with Green is obvious however we all know that the Mayors support came mostly from Stoltz, Wilbur, and Koehler.
Palp read again, he was representative of the mayor not the people in his first few years on council. Recently he has been turning that tide.
Filtered: “So, I think it’s pretty clear, he supports artificial water fluoridation.”
All of them (except Albert Koehler) support tap water fluoridation. This is in line with their conviction that this city must be the last large advocate of this outdated coercive practice in all of B.C. which is already 97% free from this disrespectful of individual human rights method of mass medication.
Some people think that they have the right to condemn others to ingest an industrial waste by-product against their will! But they are wrong! Not even by the outcome of a referendum do they have that right! That is why Europe has shut off fluoridation more than 40 years ago. It is totally unethical and dangerous. Every pharmacy sells fluoridated toothpaste which one is not to swallow!
Very few people care about fluoridation in water. As I mentioned above this is a non-issue.
Someone stated in a previous post. **Show us the bodies**. None were shown.
In all my life I have never encountered or talked to a person that suffered or was suffering from fluoridated water.
I don’t drink bottled water because of the possibility of being poisoned by the plastic, and of course because of the pollution factor. Bottled water is a much bigger issue that fluoridated water.
So is over the counter drugs, alcohol, mary jane, etc; etc;
Pal:”I don’t drink bottled water because of the possibility of being poisoned by the plastic,,,”
How would you know if a person’s chronic illness is caused by drinking water from a plastic bottle? You don’t because nobody is ever tested for that possibility!
It is the same for the neurotoxin fluoride. A person’s chronic thyroid dysfunction or kidney dysfunction may have been caused by a number of things, perhaps by drinking water from plastic bottles for a long time or from drinking for many years tap water doctored with the chemical fluorosilicic acid from the phosphate fertilizer industry.
You are cautious about the one thing while all the time you may have prevented other long term organ damage by extending your concern to the other thing as well, especially since all it takes is to turn off the tap!
By turning off the tap I mean shutting off the fluoride injection pumps and closing the valves that allow the stuff to enter into the water lines of our pristine pure water coming from a cool deep aquifer.
