Vanderhoof, BC – The District of Vanderhoof has been awarded $41,000 dollars to employ workers to install gutters, doors, windows and paint historic buildings, as well as improve access to the Vanderhoof Community Museum.

The money comes from the provincial government's Job Creation Partnership Fund.

Workers will install three wheel chair ramps to Reimer residence, the OK cafe, and the Royal Bank Building.

Over the 22-week reno period, horseshoe pits will also be installed.

The program is also part of BC's Skills for Jobs Blueprint, that helps align training and education with in demand jobs.

Wonderful! Now there’s a town that is DOING something to preserve it’s history and training people in new skills at the same time.
Maybe the people who run this town could get some ideas from them but I doubt they will.
Seems like every idea that P.G. has stolen from Vanderhoof, has failed here. Too many shysters in this town.

That’s great for the politicians to get a photo op. However, the Nechako Valley Historical Society has been unable to open any of the buildings this summer due to the lack of funding. A grant for a summer student to work as a tour guide along with other tasks was cancelled because the society did not have the funds to support the costs until the summer work was completed. The question is, why hasn’t the usual funding been provided???

So they are painting a building no one can use? I heard they personally funded ok café to help in having tourists stop in their town.

Its a joke that area could be used for so much. They have a small farmers market on Thursdays at the campground in town. It should be on Saturdays at the museum. It would attract 100s of travelers being right on the hwy.
