Telephone Line Cut On Berwick Drive

Thursday, June 26, 2014 @ 9:38 AM

Prince George- Yesterday it was the gas line that was cut as crews worked to install sewer lines on the Berwick Drive, today there was new twist, as residents complained that the telephone line had been cut to many homes in the area around  9.15 this morning.

Yesterday the gas line to the area was cut near the same spot close to  the intersection of Berwick and Highland Dr.

There is no estimate available as to when the telephone lines will be repaired.

Look at those ugly wires. Too bad they couldn’t clean that up while working underground.

Clearly they are not checking cable and line locations before they dig….Duh BC One Call?

It’s not my job to check.

just a little incompetance going on?

Well, its easy to sideline comment. But its just another day in paradise, another construction site.

No calling before you dig now using those antique landlines, eh? “Anyone got a cellphone?” Always have a plan B. Here’s hoping they find buried treasure next. Maybe a body. Or an ancient burial site. Gee, I wish I could work on such an adventurous job like that. I’d even bring my own shovel.

I like how you negative people are so very quick to judge . Your households must be a joy to live in being the positive people you are.

I worked construction for a few years and we always called for all lines and cables but on almost every job site we were on we almost invariably would hit a line, cable or cord that was not supposed to be there or was supposed to be 3 feet this way or that way. The same most likely happened here.

Well said Dearth!
I’ve been on several job sites where utilities were clearly marked according to construction drawings and still got hit or cut due to them not being where the drawings indicated they should be!

Along with the constant negatives some of the posters on here also think that they are perfect and never ever make a mistake!
Must be tough to look in the mirror and realize that you are never getting any better…as you are already PERFECT!

In summation, I suppose it’s positive proof as to why they still put erasers on pencils, I guess.

Someone should have thought -after severing a gas pipeline yesterday- that perhaps things weren’t were they were marked and to be a bit more diligent today.

And how pray tell would YOU go about determining which utility is going to be found somewhere other than where the owner of that utility has told you it is going to be?
Enlighten us unwashed masses as to how you would divine the correct locations!
They do come and mark the lines for you..in fact I had someone from cable at my house this afternoon spray painting my lawn so that I can avoid cutting their lines…but having said that there is NO guarantee that the cable line is in fact where it is indicated to be.

Gongshow?

Note to self, see if I can find that “Call before you dig” memo.

Using the trace gear properly will indicate at what depth the utility lines, phone lines cable lines and gas and water lines are at as well as the direction of the run for that service. It’s not rocket science. Now if you have a good operator and a spotter you should be able to dig without striking any of the above mentioned. The lines don’t move around from where they have been traced, it’s not hide and seek. Common sense and caution is all that’s needed in this day and age of electric light and telegraphy.

Crikey – what a gong show!?! Whose not following standard procedure?

I have worked on many pipe laying jobs and always had a hydro vac working ahead of use an never a strike. P.G. is behind times

I know a guy in Kelowna that does radar imaging for these kinds of jobs. Is able to quickly lay out where all the lines and objects are by taking a radar image of the ground in real time. Can also tell if any hidden bodies, or ancient artifacts are down there as well.

You appear to be an idiot. Seriously, can you read? Being more diligent has absolutely nothing to do with “divining” the exact locations. It means you alter your approach knowing that things are not were they’re supposed to be.

Axman..it seems that you are exactly what you say in your post as What I appear to be…the old saying keep quiet and perhaps people might think your are an idiot, or flap your gumms and prove to the entire world that you are an idiot seems to apply nicely to YOU!
