Prince George, BC – News of another grant helps 'make tracks' in the Hudson's Bay Wetland Enhancement project…

The Prince George Naturalists Club, in partnership with the Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS), has received a $13,300 grant from the TD Friends of the Environment Fund.

The grant will be used towards developing a trail on the north side of the wetland, east of Queensway.  (photo at right courtesy PG Naturalists, view looking east from foot bridge towards the confluence with the Fraser River)

The trail will be built to the same standard as the walking trails in Cottonwood Island Park and will link to Fort George Park via a ramp.

PGNC envisions a circular walk through the Hudson's Bay Wetland with an interpretive trail, boardwalks, an observation tour, overlook and observation blind.  The club says fundraising and volunteer efforts will cover the estimated $200-thousand dollars required for the project.

Earlier this spring, the group received a $15-thousand dollar award from the Pacific Salmon Foundation and $10-thousand dollars from TransCanada Corporation to ensure major portions of Phase 1 will be completed by this fall.  And just last week, the club received a $1500 grant from the myPG Social Development Fund that will be put towards signage.

"Thanks to the (TD Friends of the Environment Fund) grant, the Prince George Naturalists Club is delighted to be able to proceed with this section of trail development," says President Shanelle Marshall.  "The Naturalists Club will now be able to complete the trail in Phase One of the overall project."

They have raised more private money for trails around this swamp in less then a year than the PAC society has raised in a decade. Good to see the effort going into our parks.
