Kitsault Mine Moves Forward

Saturday, July 5, 2014 @ 3:59 AM

Prince George, B.C.  – The Kitsault Mine project has passed another hurdle.

The  Federal Minister of the Environment, Leona Aglukkaq, has announced the project is not likely to cause significant  adverse  environmental effects when the mitigation measures described in the Comprehensive Study Report and its Addendum are taken into account.

The Minister has referred the project back to the responsible authorities, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Natural Resources Canada, for appropriate action.

The Minister has also issued a Project Recommendation under the Nisga'a Final Agreement (NFA) that includes provisions to mitigate adverse environmental effects on Nisga'a.

The Kitsault mine project,  received a Mines Act permit from the Province of B.C. in mid June.  The project is located about 140 kilometers  north of Prince Rupert and  is estimated to cost $812 million dollars.

During the two year construction period, the project is expected to  employ 700 people,  and will require 300 full time workers when the mine is up and running.

Construction is expected to start in 2015.

So what are they mining?? Sugar ,maybe.

Molybdenum I believe.

Yes. Molybdenum. This mine has been operating on and off since 1967,.

Mine jobs are generally good jobs with decent spin off. As long as they return the area to normal afterwards I’m happy.

Will make the ghost town of Kisault into a boom town again.

They also have an LNG proposal. Beautiful area.

The pride parade story has no opinions allowed (what a shock, someone might say something not pc), I have no opinion on it, but just the fact that it is closed to opinions has lowered the credibility of this site to the level of rag. Don’t want to ruffle any of those pink feathers, aye ben. You trash the mayor and council on a regular basis and you are afraid to let people have an opinion expressed on your site about a sensitive issue? I can understand blocking for ongoing court cases, but this? Strange.

Its simple huh – open your own blog and make your own rules.
Ps – there WERE comments on the parade story so I’m guessing the local neanderthals already spoke their opinions. :)

You missed my point, the censorship or lack of letting one voice an opinion is getting so overly pc here now that this site is losing its credibility to be an opinion site. Opening my own blog has no bearing on what I said.
