Wild Ride in McBride Leads to Arrest
McBride, B.C.- It started out as a typicial vehicle stop for speeding, but ended up in a drama one might see in a movie.
Saturday, July 5th, a McBride RCMP member observed a gold colour Chevrolet Blazer travelling above the posted speed limit on Highway 16. When the member attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle took off at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle then turned onto a gravel road east of McBride where it did several donuts before proceeding at a high rate of speed.
The RCMP say the officer pulled off the highway and did not continue pursuing the Blazer "because of the dangerous manner it was being driven. A short time later the vehicle drove towards the parked police vehicle and swerved at the police vehicle narrowly missing it."
More officers from McBride and Valemount attended, and located the suspect vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at the stop sign on the frontage road in McBride.
The suspect vehicle continued on to a dead end street where the male driver resisted arrest and assaulted two police officers before a bystander stepped in to help police arrest the man.
The male driver from Alberta was taken to the Valemount Medical Clinic as it appeared he was suffering a mental health episode and was committed under the Mental Health Act by the attending doctor for further assessment.
The male is facing numerous charges under the Criminal Code including resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Anyone who witnessed the incident involving the gold colour Chevrolet Blazer is asked to contact the McBride RCMP at 250-569-2255.
