Firefighters Called Out To Buckhorn Lake Wildfire
Prince George, B.C. – Fire crews were called upon Friday night to deal with a wildfire off Buckhorn Lake Road, just past the lake.
Two Initial Attack crews, two air tankers, three helicopters and ground equipment were called into service around 7 pm Friday to fight the blaze, which has covered about 7 hectares 25 kilometres southeast of Prince George. A fire guard was built around the perimeter of the fire and a 20-member unit crew remains on site this morning.
Provincial Fire Information Officer Navi Saini says the cause of the moderately vigorous Rank 3 fire is still being investigated. She notes fire crews are making good progress on containment and that no homes or structures were threatened by the blaze, which is burning at surface level at this time.
So far smoke from the Buckhorn Lake fire is not affecting air quality in Prince George. No air quality or smoke alerts are posted for the city as of this morning.
